Performer, adjudicator, conductor, clinician, teacher and administrator Gloria Jean Nagy opened her studio in the National Capital Region (Vanier & Nepean) as a vocal, piano, theory/rudiments & violin/viola instructor in 1981. The current vocal studio was built in 1992. Ms. Nagy has also taught at Carleton University at the School for Studies in Art & Culture since 1981 and is a tutorial instructor for Arts Canterbury and a vocal teacher for students attending De la Salle High School. Her Studies at the University of Western Ontario (M. Mus) eventually led to performing opportunities at the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy (Budapest), the Banff School of Fine Arts (Opera & Academy of Singing), the Maria Canals International Vocal Competitions (Barcelona), and the Montr�al International Competitions (1981 & 1985). Ms. Nagy has been broadcast many times by CBC Radio and la Soci�t� Radio-Canada both in Canada and in France. She and pianist /organist Dr. Deirdre Piper performed as the duo CANTABILE (In a singing style)for fifteen years. The duo, now in it�s twenty first season (2007-2008),features pianists Dr. Elaine Keillor and the return of Sally Robinson for the April 6, 2008 concert at St. Paul's Presbyterian, 971 Woodroffe Ave at the Queensway

Ms. Nagy became an examiner for Conservatory Canada (Voice & Junior Piano)in June 2002 and has adjudicated many festivals of music in the past in both junior and senior voice, junior piano and also choral classes. Some of these were held in Bancroft, Belleville, Brantford, Brockville, Burlington,Cornwall, London, Pembroke, Sarnia, Simcoe, Stirling, Renfrew and Russell in Ontario as well as Fredericton & Moncton, New Brunswick and St. John's & Carbonear, Newfoundland. She is a sought after clinician specializing in vocal technique for choirs (Pembroke Interchoir �97 &�99, Kincardine Summer Music, West Carleton Choir, Swiss Choir, Kanata Choral Society, Arnprior Community Choir etc). She is currently Past-President of the Ottawa Region Branch of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers� Association [ORMTA] is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing [NATS] is an active conductor in the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors [ACCC] and is an active syllabus committee member of Canadian Music Showcase \ Carrefour de la musique canadienne. She has also written and edited The Singers� Overview of Canadian Contemporary Music available for a small fee through the Canadian Music Centre in Toronto. She is the conductor of the Amabile Singers of Nepean (since 1989), the Unforgettable Hearts (since March 2000), the Kanata Choral Society (since September 2001)and Ottawa's newest choir The West Ottawa Children's Chorus (inagural season 2006-2007) and is the former conductor of the Kincardine Summer Music Festival Senior Choir, Goulbourn Jubilee Singers of Stittsville, West Carleton Choral Society of Carp, the Unforgettable Hearts and the Concordia Frauen Choir of Ottawa as well as numerous elementary school and high school choirs in the Ottawa area.

Ms. Nagy has been heard in many operatic productions in Ottawa, Nepean, London and Banff and has appeared with the Nepean, Brantford, Deep River, Montreal Repertory, Divertimento Orchestra of Ottawa and the University of Western Ontario Symphony Orchestras.

Students are invited to participate in Student Recitals and Musical Theatre Workshops throughout the teaching year. This season the Student Recitals will be held on Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. at Gloria Jean's Vocal Studio on the following dates: October 19, December 14, February 8, April 5 and June 20. These five recitals are free to the public and the students and there is a reception following each one. The Musical Theatre Workshops will be held November 16 (at 2 p.m.) and March 22 (at 2 p.m). These sessions give the student the opportunity to work on their staged musical theatre selection with an accompanist and sometimes also with a choreographer, depending on the need. The accompanist and choreographer fees are the student's responsibility.

Students preparing for examinations are expected to participate in the Eclectic Evening of Music to be held on June 6, 2009 at St. Paul's Presbyterian, 971 Woodroffe Ave. In addition to those preparing for exams, the very best of Gloria Jean's vocal studio will also participate in this end of year concert with admission ($5) Poster Details to follow

In addition to these "in studio" opportunities, students of Gloria Jean's have participated in the Canadian Music Showcase (November), ORMTA Canadian Music Week Recital (November 2008), Contemporary Showcase (November), the ORMTA Competitions (May 2009), ORMTA First Class Honours Recital (Feb 5, 2009), the NATS Vocal Festival (Feb 14-16, 2009) and the Kiwanis Music Festival (April 7-May 3, 2009) for a number of years. New opportunities are always a possibility including recitals with other teacher's students, solo recitals and church sponsored concerts.
