"He Lives in a pineapple under the sea;  Spongebob Squarepants!  Yellow, absorbant, and   poreous is he; Spongebob Squarepants!"  As a sponge that lives in Bikini Bottom,             Spongebob shares the screen with his neighbors and friends, Patrick, Sandy,                   Squidward,  and Mr. Krabs, and a not-so-nice Plankton.  He has a pet snail whom he        calls Gary and works as a fry cook for Mr. Krabs at the Krusty Krab where he is             renownd for  his Krabby Patties.
Plankton is a devious little, well, piece of plankton who is constantly trying to get the       secret Krabby Patty formula from Spongebob by decieving him.  Plankton's tricks, like    Wyle E. Coyote's Acme creations always fail in the end and like any good-natured bad     guy, Plankton admits defeat then returns to his home to think up the next scheme.  He     has the mind of a mad scientist and the will of an evil villain, but his inventions often        turn out to be duds, which is good for our hero, Spongebob!
Patrick Star is the exception to the intellectually-gifted.  As Spongebob's best friend        his only real role is to provide bits of comic relief stemming from his idiotic statements    and reasonings.  His dialogue and tone of voice are matched by none with any sort of      intelligence, however, he is perhaps the most likeable character (besides Spongebob        himself), in the cartoon.  Let's just say that Partick would make anyone feel smarter!
Gary, everyones favorite meowing snail, is the uncredited 'King of Comedy.'  He always   seems to know just when to meow for a laugh and without so much as a sylable has       perhaps the greatest comedic role.  Amazing how a snail who thinks he's a cat can          make you laugh, isn't it?!
Sandy is Spongebob's best and only female friend.  Originally from Texas, Sandy, a      squirrel who lives in a self-contained bubble under the sea and wears an air helmet         around Bikini Bottom, enjoys karate and hanging out with Spongebob.  This buck-         toothed and furry animal shows an "I can do anything you can do" attitude, especially    when it comes to being able to live under water.  Sandy is courteous and likeable and a  symbol to strong women everywhere (not really, she's is, after all, just a cartoon)!
Mr. Krabs is the epitome of the entrepenuerial boss.  A tight-wad about anything       financial, Krabs is a friendly enough businessman who takes pride in the fact that      Spongebob makes him so much money.  His pirate-like voice only adds to the           character of the penny-pinching employer and is also very comedic in itself.  Mr.      Krabs means well and usually gets his financial rewards.
Squidward is the sarcastic neighbor of Spongebob who, like myself, plays the          clarinet and enjoys sunbathing out-of-doors.  He is often sour and in being so,          creates an almost adult sense of likability in that most people can relate to his           complaining nature.  His sarcasm is what makes him funny and I couldn't imagine    him without that nasty sense of humor.
Plankton: "Only aggresive people conquer  the world!"
Gary: "Meow!"
Spongebob: "Tartar sauce!"
Patrick: "You ate my candybar. Now I'm   gonna starve!"
Sandy: "Hiyeee-yah!"
Mr. Krabs: "Time is money!"
