The Golf Club — This nine hole, par three course is located southeast of St. Joseph on Highway 169. Paradise Pointe Golf Complex— This 36-hole public complex in Smithville, Mo., offers two different 18-hole courses: the Outlaw and the Posse. Lake Contrary-Just southwest of the Saint Joseph city limits. Follow Alabama Street west to Lake Front Lane, turn right on Lake Front, Lake Contrary is an oxbow lake, depth normally six to eight feet. Amenities: Picnic tables, playground equipment, softball field, sand volleyball and basketball courts, restrooms. Security guard on duty daily through Sept. 1. Lake and park close at 10 p. m. each night. This website link has some very neat pictures of Lake Contrary when it was an amusement park. Lewis and Clark Lake-20 miles southwest of Saint Joseph on Missouri Highway 138 in Buchanan County. This is a 365-acre oxbow lake in a 121-acre park. Swimming, boating, fishing, picnic and shelter area overlooking lake. Camping facilities. http://www.mostateparks.com/lewisandclark/geninfo.htm

Mozingo Lake- East of Marysville, Mo., from Saint Joseph, take U. S. Highway 71, follow the bypass on the east side of Marysville and turn east on U.S. Highway 136 to Liberty Road ( 3 to 4 miles), than 1 mile north on Liberty. 1,000-acre lake in a 3,000 acre park. Six miles long, with five miles navigable by boats. About 75 feet at the dam.

Amenities: three boat ramps, handicap accessible boat and fishing docks, a swimming beach, picnic facilities and campsites, both modern and primitive, 1-hole golf course, horse and walking trails, snack bar, youth camp cabins, two pavilions, 15 covered shelters with picnic tables and grills. Boating permits, either daily or season passes, are available from Maryville Public Safety, 222 E. Third, or at the information booth at the park entrance. Tent camping or RV camping with utility hookups are available. Visit information booth at park entrance. Hunting: Shotguns only for the taking of pheasant, geese, rabbit, ducks, squirrel. Big Lake-11 miles southwest of Mound City, on Missouri Highway 111 in Holt County. Big Lake is a 625-acre park. Lake borders the state park, which lies along a major migratory flyway near Squaw Creek National Wildlife refuge. Activities: fishing, bird watching, Amenities: campsites, modern kitchen equipped rental cabins, picnic areas, a restaurant, swimming pool and boat ramp. http://www.mostateparks.com/biglake.htm

Smithville Lake-Near Smithville, Mo. Take U.S, Highway 169 south of Saint Joseph about 20 miles. Smithville Lake is approximately 7,200 acres with more than 175 miles of shoreline. There is also the Jerry Litton Visitor Center and Smith Fork Park at the site.

Amenities: camping, picnic areas, fishing, boating, swimming and sailing, canoeing on tributary streams, golf, hunting. 3 large recreation areas with campsites, beaches, picnic areas, marinas, riding/hiking trails, golf courses, amphitheatre, softball and soccer fields, go-carts, batting cages, archery range, concessions, restroom facilities. Just want to hang out in the city for the day and still have some water fun? The St. Joseph Aquatic Park, 402 South Noyes Blvd, St. Joseph, Missouri, 816-271-5500 is full of activity. The facility has a 203 ft. waterslide, 165 ft. enclosed waterslide, 50 meter pool, 6 lanes, diving well, two 1 meter diving boards, waterfall, vortex, zero depth beach entry, 300 ft lazy river, (river tubes available, no extra charge), concession areas, catering available, lounge chairs, sun deck, and large shaded structures. If you are up for a little walk, this park is within walking distance of the Bed and Breakfast, a little over a mile from the property.
