I
write nonfiction, including essays,
reviews, and political commentary, as well as poetry. Please
contact me at either of the addresses above if I can be of help to you
in any writing endeavor. Here are some samples of my work online:
--This essay about Chiune Sugihara (a Japanese
diplomat who rescued Jews in Lithuania during the Holocaust, and is now
known as "the Japanese Schindler") was published by Florida singer and
tour organizer Joy Katzen-Guthrie
on her web page joyfulnoise.net in 2000.
--I published this
article on remoras in the member newsletter of the National
Aquarium in Washington, DC, in 2001.
--Two of my travel articles, one
about Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and the
other about Newark, New Jersey,
have been published by the travel web site Bootsnall.com.
--I wrote the text for a
virtual tour of the archeology museum in Ciudad Juarez for the web
site Juarez-Mexico.com.
This tour is an ongoing collaboration between the site owner, the
museum staff, my wife (who took many of the photographs used in the
tour), and myself.
--Democratic Underground.com used an article I wrote titled "A
Great Year in 2005?" in December,
2004.
--This
is a review
I wrote of the one recording by the late Nick Anthan, a
great DC-area pianist and composer. The poet Jendi Reiter, who is
mentioned in the review, quoted from it on her own web site (scroll down
to the bottom to see the quote).
--Here's another
review I wrote, this time of the book Folk Housing in Middle Virginia
by folklorist Henry Glassie. I wrote it for one of my college
classes.
--My museum
cataloging page has some samples of my museum-oriented writing (to see
it, click on the "back" button of your browser, and then click on the
link that reads "museum cataloging").
--I like to watch movies and write
reviews of them in what little spare time I have.
