Hunger

by
JW Bradford
Source:
Voices of the Heart, p.28

Fire without oxygen dies
As I did when I was myself fade from your eyes
My hell is your heaven, as your freedom forbids mine
You beg me to go, but I am yours for all time

To die watching you live
That is my curse
Like a man who is near water
Yet perishes from thirst.

Not long ago
I held the beast at bay
But in my quest to touch you again
My control has slipped away

Now the demon laughs at my pain
My tears feed his hunger
He shows me hope and dreams of us
When love and we were younger

I turn to run and search for relief
In the arms of somone new
But every time I think I've won
He leads me back to you

Lost Souls

by
JW Bradford
Source:
Voices of The Heart , p27

You speak my name with subdued tones
Guarding each thought and feeling
I seek that which has turned to bones
A love that I found so appealing

The years have passed, and tears I've shed
In fear I hid my emotion
I cannot resurrect the dead
Nor walk upon the ocean

Yet, here I am with you once more
Reaching for your very soul
Wandering down a corridor
Completely out of control

These things I write, they are for you
But they are for me as well
They let me express a love so true
And say what my lips can't tell

Still your love will never return
It's someone else's prize
So now in flames my heart will burn
And tears will fill my eyes
