Poem #1

Four Seasons

by Mark Stellinga
Source: Phonetical Imagery

Autumn sheds her brilliant beauty
Painting pictures on the ground
Twirling leaves of gold and crimson
Brush the lawn without a sound.

Sketching scenes with cooler mornings
Winter now is ling'ring near.
Scenes which soon will conquer Autumn
Ending thus, another year.

Snow, but flakes, will soon drift lightly
Turning white the frigid land
Trees, that stand like frozen corpses,
Look as dead at Winter's hand.

Yet, the hard, cold snow will soften,
Trees their buds will quickly gain.
Flowery flames will melt the meadows,
No reminders will remain.

Showers then will sprinkle gently,
Leaves again, with Spring, return.
Bleak and lifeless limbs no longer,
Summer's sun again will burn.

Kindling fires of gold and crimson
Stretching brightly east to west
Blazing leaves, again for Autumn
Beauty reigns with her success....

Poem #2:

I Came Upon A Mountain

by Mark Stellinga
Source: Phonetical Imagery

I came upon a mountain
of a great and stately size.
How high I could not tell
The top was hidden in the skies.

It rose so very rapidly
'twas truly quite profound.
This was the kind of mountain
that most souls would go around.

But unlike most a new and
Untamed wilderness I seek.
The thought of finding something
New and fresh upon the peak.

Drew me toward the awesome world
That waited for my mind.
But none could have imagined
All the wonders I would find.

As I embarked I pondered
What a man might come to learn
I wondered,would I reach the top
Or would I not return.

Plainly, I returned and yes
I made it to the top.
Though often nearly giving up,
I'm glad I didn't stop.

As hard as it can sometimes be
to do what we would choose,
If no attempt is made to win,
We can but only lose.
