Poem #4

Ask Alice

by Jill A. Terry
Source: Shadows of My Soul p.60

Ask Alice through the looking glass
The things I saw weren't really there
The words you spoke were backwards truths
You never cared the way I felt

Your words of want sustained me
Made me feel alive
Touching some place inside of me
I believed had long since died

The mind plays a wicked game
When it's solely led by the heart
Once I found you in my life again
I wanted to believe we would never again part

To have a little piece of you
Anyway I could
My days became much brighter
Less lonely were my nights

Like a dirty puddle on the floor
My heart to you I eagerly poured
The contentment I found within my soul
The truth of you crept in and stole

Maudlin prose of a lonely heart
Grasping for that long-lost ghost
The one that foretells my future
Continually haunts my past

Time has a way of changing things
No matter how good, they never seem to last
Alone you left me stumbling in the dark
Was it the words I gave you written from my heart

How could something that felt so real
Turn out to be an illusion surreal
You make me wonder who you are
And what it is you're thinking

Down the rabbit hole searching I go
Looking for Alice maybe she knows-

Poem #5

Desires Flame

by Jill A. Terry
Source: Shadows of My Soul p.57

I was on fire...
Everytime you walked in the room
From the spark that exuded you

I wondered then if you somehow knew
To my good fortune and luck
You picked it right up

What you did with it then
I wish you would do now
It's a shame to want me
And not have me somehow-
