I Beg You, Come No Closer
S. Cat Sept 30/03

Tis very early in the awakening morning
It's all magnificent, shiny and brand new
I arise from slumber, watch the dawning sky
Stunningly bathed in this amber-tinted hue

Dressing, I walked out to my tiny garden
Bent down, then turned on the garden hose
Need to be watering my precious plants
Awash in myriad colours, one's a crimson rose

Taking my time as I looked all around me
Checking to see how my blossoms all do fare
I spy something, out of the very corner of my eye
Motionless now, it's watching me from over there

Sparkling, irridescent prisms of water droplets
Trickled from my plants, alit on your partial home
Oh yes, I can see you hovering there mr spider
Hanging by a thread, just above my garden gnome

In fascinated wonder I sit back and begin to watch
Marvelling at the complexity of these gossamer strands
You set right to it, your industrious labour as you spin
An ingenious design, do you follow a built-in set of plans?

Heed these words mr spider, I beg you, come no closer
Stay out here, out of my home, do not cause any surprise
Or you'll learn to your detriment, my daughter's fear of you
Will surely and truly cause, your early and untimely demise.
