Their Seasonal Angel
S. Cat Oct 22/03

A quaint tiny cottage nestled amid a stand of trees
In old mother Russia, buried so deep in the wood
Longing for a child on which to lavish their love
This lonely old couple, so childless there stood

In sadness and sorrow, out the window they peeked
Daily they watched neighbour's children at play
Tossing their snowballs and building their forts
Wishing with all their hearts, to have one this day

As the sun softly glistened on the newly fallen snow
An idea occured to the man, he shouted with glee
"We'll build us a snow maiden, a lovely daughter
So hurry, bundle up quickly and then come with me"

They set right to work, lovingly fashioned her quick
She was lovely and light, quite a sight to behold
The love from their hearts soon brought her to life
Daughter of enchantment, snowflakes and the cold

Long flowing hair and eyes blue as the midday skies
"God be thanked said the wife for a child such as thee"
She twirled all around and skipped through the snow
Tasting the wet snowflakes and laughing with such glee

Thinking to bundle her up, protect her and warm her
Into the quaint cottage they took their new child
As they dressed her in furs all sparkling and white
The maiden informed them this cottage is too mild

Don't worry she told them, the cold bothers me not
"I'll dance in the moonlight, promise not to get lost
I'm a child of the winter, the north winds and the ice
I dance with the snowflakes, play tag with Jack Frost"

Winter passed quickly, much to this couples dismay
Each day she would greet them all covered in snow
Then spring crept softly closer, the temperature rose
This couple they loved her and begged her not to go

She watched them weep and heard their sad laments
Sighing with a heavy heart, she bid them a fond adieu
"When spring has passed, summer and fall will unfold
Look for me, I'll return in winter, to your love so true."
