A very misunderstood fact about atheism is the morality that goes with it. Many Christians believe that the only source of morality is from a god, and that if one does not believe in a god or have threats of eternal punishment hanging over them then they cannot be moral. This is obviously not true, especially when looking at crime statistics.
Humans are very societal creatures, which is one of the main things that has helped us to evolve. WE aren't particularly strong as animals go, or large, or agile. We have safety in our intelligence and numbers and that's about it. So it would make sense from an evolutionary standpoint if humans and other group creatures evolved some kind of morality.
A question to ponder: Is morality from God? That is, is morality simply what God favors? If so, then what protects us from following the false morality of a god who tells us that it is the right thing to dash children against the stones (Ps. 137:9) or sacrifice virgins (Num. 31:40) or commit ritual genocide (Dt. 3:1-7; Num. 31:1-18; 28-47)? And how can you call God good if you have no standard with which to compare him?
On the other hand, if morality is separate from God, and is something that God himself is subject to, then why do we need God to find out what morality is? If morality simply is, and is not necessarily what God has decided is good, then we should be able to discover right from wrong on our own.
