close enough to see through a telescope, and red-colored as seen
through our atmosphere, with white ice caps and "channels" that can
be seen through a decent scope... and the object in question looked
very much like this
Atheist142: plus it was in the position that my star/planet guide told me
it would be
Atheist142: so I can safely assume that it is Mars.

much like a planet with icecaps and such... and since this fits the
description of the planet Mars, I assumed it was.
