Whenever we open a new savings bank account from any bank, those banks used to have MAB (minimum available balance).
Example exception I have seen during 2016 from HDFC bank.
I was having my savings account from HDFC bank.
Before going to HDFC bank I have written a self-signed letter(A4 sheet) to close my savings account from HDFC bank.
After reaching HDFC bank I have informed HDFC bank manger to close my savings account.
HDFC Manager response:
provide your self-signed letter having your HDFC bank savings account to a person who was nearby him [ idle at workstation(/computer) ]
Before giving my letter I have taken a snapshot using my NOKIA mobile (manager and the person nearby did not notice this.).
I gave that letter to that person and left the bank.
On the same day I have sent an email to HDFC bank to close my account.
After one and half months I have received an automated "noreply at hdfc bank dot com" email from HDFC bank having following message:
You have not maintained minimum balance of 10000.00 INR (ten thousand rupees ONLY).
Hence pay 15000.00 INR (fifteen thousand rupees ONLY) to HDFC bank
before closing your savings account.
I have sent my reply email (after removing "noreply at hdfc bank dot com" email) to HDFC bank:
Above history         including my snapshot of my signed letter.
Next day I received automated email from HDFC bank:
Your account has been closed automatically.
This is the reason why I HATE ALL THE banks providing more minimum balance (investing our minimum balance for their shared business/market/mutual funds/...)
I am not asking them to share their business profit back to me. I want them to reduce the minimum balance, especially during lock down periods.
Hence handle MAB at all banks when having personal account.
Example1:
Assume that minimum balance is 2000.00 dollars and current month(Example: April) having 30 days
We can deposit 2000.00*30 = 60000.00 dollars on first day. No withdrawal on first day 01-April
We can withdraw 60000.00 dollars on next day of Wed 02-April
Reason: MAB => ( 60000.00 + 0 * 29 ) / 30 = 2000.00 dollars.
Example2:
Same balance 2000.00 dollars from Tue 01-Apr till 28-Apr ( 28 days). 29-Apr-2053 having 4000.00 dollars. 30-Apr having zero balance.
Hence MAB=(2000.00*28+4000.00+0)/30=(56000.00+4000.00)/30=60000.00/30=2000.00
Example2:
Assume that you are having two bank accounts.
first bank: minimum balance => 10000.00 dollars if you are having ATM card and cheque book.
first bank: minimum balance => 9000.00 dollars if you are NOT having ATM card and NOT having cheque book.
second bank: minimum balance => 10000.00 dollars if you are having ATM card and cheque book.
second bank: minimum balance => 9000.00 dollars if you are NOT having ATM card and NOT having cheque book.
Hence stop using two ATM cards and two cheque books.
Use only one ATM card and only one cheque book.
Use first bank to pay current bill at state1.
Use second bank to pay current bill at state2.
Transfer money from first bank to second bank => transfer only limited amount (handling transfer exceptions and extra charges).
Assume that second bank MAB became zero due to current bill payment:
Transfer amount1 to second bank today
Transfer amount2 to second bank on 2nd today
Transfer amount3 to second bank on 3rd today/...
Keep that amount at second bank till you meet MAB.
After that we can transfer the same money and related dates to first bank.
This is the reason I have written following statement:
TO REDUCE POLLUTION AND TO SAVE MONEY (TILL MONEY IS MANDATORY AT EARTH either using purse or packet or mobile or related application at related device or bank or ... ).
Even though my HDFC account was closed during 2016 (at Bangalore)
my HDFC bank Customer ID was not closed till On Wed 08-Mar-2023 IST
I went to HDFC BANK(at Chennai) on the same day(Wed 08-Mar-2023 IST) to close my customer id referring to my closed HDFC account. REASON:
My google pay(gpay) used to add my HDFC bank(closed account) till now 08-Mar-2023 IST.
