LA SERIE AMBIGUA

This is a collection of work inspired by a summer
vacation to Southern Italy.

Drifting wordlessly deep within the planet, miles
beneath the surface. The sea clear and calm, rendered
turquoise by a bed of orange coral clinging to the
submerged rock of the inlet, gently caressed the earth.
Shards of sunlight collided in a cascade of cosmic
reference across peaks of ripples left stealthily in the
wake of our craft. A crew of two a party of
six embarked on a journey to confront the mythical
demonic perceptions of the underworld, consumed with
awe breathless at the beauty which engulfed the senses
submitting to the silence that penetrated long forgotten
depths. Peace and solitude seeped from the crevasses.

The initial image taken with a Minolta Dynax 500si
35mm SLR camera, deep within the briny chasms of the
cavernous networks beneath the Isles of Capri was the
embryo of a creative and fruitful journey.

This photograph awakens the consciousness to the
essence of Paleolithic art combined with technological
innovations of today.

The sketch pad bore the burden of the initial
experimentation, composition, colour, tonality and
texture. Reprographic technology created a means to
manipulate and distort the records held within the
pages pushing the image beyond its boundaries.

With clay the form was forced to accept depth, volume
and solidity the motif now occupied space in a three
dimensional environment offering a greater perspective.

Simplifying the image once again with Marquettes of
garden wire the inclusion of distorted imagery created
using the photocopier, I mapped a very simple two
dimensional linier design using Adobe Photoshop.

The PC and Photo suite software enabled the
restructure of the motif, rebuilding layers of colour and
texture whilst experimenting with light and space.
