Jackass: The Movie

What's the Plot?

In a world where predictability is normal and normality is predictable, TV has become tame and tamed it's couch-potato audience. Everywhere you look, the same old same old is served up via large bland dishes across the globe. Not all is lost though. Somewhere out there, there is a group of individuals who are willing to risk anything, and everything, to bring a glimmer of hope to all TV watchers world-wide. Having made their mark upon the home viewers and succeeded in changing all those who watched, this band of intrepid men feel ready to bring it up a gear and touch as many individuals as possible in the cover of darkness in cinema theatres everywhere. This is the team of "Jackass" and their methods are certainly very different from anything ever seen before.

The Review

Okay, let's cut the crap! " Jackass " the TV programme was simply a bunch of guys who are a banana short of a picnic doing ridiculous pranks and stunts to out-do and impress each other. The humour in the show is very basic, very funny and very, very gross. Well, with an 18 certificate, the motley crew led by unofficial leader Johnny Knoxville, no longer push the boundaries of decency and good taste, but have broken through them and sold the debris off as firewood. This is definitely not for anyone who is easily offended or who has difficulty in keeping their drink or popcorn down when faced with strong images and sounds

You see, the entire idea of the movie is to show the weirder, sicker and downright nastier and stupider stunts that TV would refuse to show. Hence you get such delights as one of the guys pissing on a snow-cone, then "egged" on by the others to eat it! This is not a normal kind of film by any stretch of the imagination. Bearing in mind that most of the movie's sketches involve no effects, no sets and no thinking whatsoever, it's no wonder that the film is very much in profit! Infact, the only " gag " that would have cost anything would be where they hire a car and then enter it into a demolition derby.

Obviously they lose, but the real fun is when a hungover Johnny Knoxville attempts to return the battered remains of the car to the rental place - absolute genius! The simplest sketch involves an envelope but there is no one on this planet who won't, at the very least, squirm with discomfort as the guys' perform paper cuts on each other to locations such as tongues and the webbing between the fingers and the toes. Sheer stupidity but strangely hypnotic nonetheless. Even though the finale promises a "Son Of Jackass. Coming Summer 2063", it's hard to see another slice of madness being served up in cinemas. Having said that though, box office success does equal sequels so, you never know! This reviewer waits in anticipation with sick bag in hand.
