Nuriko has got to have the cutest personality of any of the FY characters. First off, he's always teasing someone (I find this endearing). He was teasing Miaka until just before his death. Nuriko is also self-sacrificing, and not only physically, like when he died protecting his friends. He also gave up his love for Miaka because he wanted to see her and Tamahome find happiness together. How sweet!
Friends:
Many people loved Nuriko as a friend in the course of the series, but (apparently) he never "the one"... if only I had been born in Old China! ;_; Um, but that's beside the point.
Of all his friends, Nuriko seemed to be closest to Miaka, Tamahome, and Tasuki. Miaka looked to him as an older sister (or so I think), while, in episode 32 (I think ^^;;;), he tells Tamahome to cofide in him as if he were his older brother. He and Tasuki were undeniably close--evidence of this is how they were often together, and even though Tasuki was continually pounded into the wall by Nuriko, they enjoyed each other's presence. Remember, Tasuki also displayed the most emotion when Nuriko died than anywhere else in the series, too.
History:
Nuriko's sister, Kourin, died from a carriage accident when she was very young. He was very close to her, and they could easily pass as twins since they looked so much alike. He was deeply saddened by his little sister's death, and resolved to take her place. (Watase Yuu words this so much better than I do.)
Because of this, Nuriko is introduced as "Kourin," a beautiful young woman in the Imperial Harem.
