I have been planning to blog for a while, well here it is. I will try to update it at least once a week
Entry for December 21, 2006: Happy Feet, at last something to cheer about

Not detered by the depression caused by Casino Royale, I ventured for a movie once again. This time Happy Feet and at last I had something to cheer about. The good thing is that I did not go looking for a story, so if I did not see any, that was no reason to feel depressed.

Happy feet is the story of an adventerous young penguin who leaves his shore (or had to leave his shores) in search of the aliens who is causing the fish stock in his land to deteriorate thus causing starvation among the penguin population.

But that is in the end, the begining is somewhat touching, even more touching to me because the penguin is "special" meaning, not like other penguins kids. The kid is not able to perform like others in the penguin school and his parents are asked t o take him to a special school. Since I have a kid who is attending a learning center for kids with special needs, i can identify entirely with the emotions and dilemmas of the parents and the attittude of rest of the society to such kids.

In the end it is not the story whcih is stunning about the movie. It is the camera work and the scenery of antartica. The vast expanse of ice, the huge numbers of penguins gathering for fisheries trip, migration and so on. It is simply superb whether or not you identify with the special need kids.

I was very delighted to learn that Happy Feet defeated Casiono Royale at the Box office. At least this movie dont let you feel cheated !
