Guidelines for selection of Passwords

This Page deals with Password related problems, guidelines for selecting good passwords, do's and don'ts.

How to Form a Password ?

Don't use your login name, real name or initials , even with appended/prepended numbers.
Don't use any information associated with you (spouse, parents, city etc.).
Don't use any dictionary words.

Account and Responsibility

You are responsible for all actions taken through your account. It is advised that you do not share your account with others. Compromises in password security normally result from careless password selection or handling.
For this reason, you should select a password which does not appear in a dictionary.

Hints for forming Good Passwords

The main objective here is to select a difficult password and it should be easily rememberable only by you.
Use a combination of Alpha Numeric Characters mixing lower with upper case. It is easier to pick a favorite quote and make an acronym out of it. Example: "As You Sow so you reap" can yield a password "AYSsyr"
It is preferred that you select a sentence which is invariably associated with you which you can remember easily and generate a random password from it. Example: "I like watching movies starring Aamir Khan" yields "IlwmsAK".
Generate a Hint : "Something I like very much to see especially if it is him"

Shall I Store my Password ?

If you follow the above policy of setting a password then you will not need to store the password.
If you have to write down generate a cryptic hint and write down the hint and try to protect it too.
Do not mention that it has something to do with a password.
Do not store anything such as password, hint etc. on your computer.
