The Kitchen
I know we said we wanted to start from scratch in here, but we got so tired of the dark, old, nasty cabinets that we just couldn't help it.  We started painting...
We painted with a texture paint called Venetian Plaster.  The color is called Caramello.  Brandon thought (and rightly so), that the sage green I wanted would clash with the harvest gold countertops.  Of course, the gold counters make this paint look much more orange than it is, but you can't win 'em all...

We still have a long way to go in here, but it is so much better now!
Ah, now there's a good shot of how big a difference a little change really makes.  The new, creamy cabinets and the white appliances really brighten up this area.  Plus, we got rid of the harvest gold fake brick paneling behind the stove.  Man, that was a pain in the booty!
We thought about getting new cabinets for the laundry room, but we decided to knock out a shelf from the old ones and paint the whole thing.  Looks as good as new, and since we already had the paint, cost us nothing!
Other changes to the kitchen this year:

   Installed garbage disposal
   Replaced kitchen faucet/sprayer
Took out old water filter thing
         previous owners had left behind
   Replaced two light fixtures in
         kitchen, one in laundry room

Vented dryer up into attic instead of
         into garage
Additional changes planned for the coming year:

Convert wet bar into walk-in pantry
  Remove shelves from current pantry,
add tension bar for laundry center
Replace linoleum on floor with nicer,
     brighter tiles
