========= 2001/09/16 News ========= After being stranded on vacation, I finally standby'd back home yesterday. Muppetbot has been brought back up. God Bless America, and us all. ========= 2001/08/15 News ========= Better mail out your taxes by today if you filed an extension!!! I extended Muppetbot's tracking to count logins in addition to minutes online. So you can see how often you or your buddies hang out in chat. Would you prefer total daily minutes online instead of the daily # of logins? Lemme know! ========= 2001/08/10 News ========= Power failure!!! Something envious of the rolling California blackouts brought one down to Seal Beach and hosed muppetbot's internet connection for half a day. We're back up, and somehow our connection's better! Not great, but better! ========= 2001/07/07 News ========= A day or two ago, JDate updated their site and changed their profile format to a two-page version, like American Singles. Now Muppetbot has been updated to the new format! No more mostly missing profiles! Also added the login length info. ========= 2001/07/02 News ========= Thanks everybody for the votes! I am taking down the goatee voting page, I'm sure you're all tired of being pestered for your opinions! Thanks for all of them, by the way. I love my goatee! It has wings! ========= 2001/06/16 News ========= Doh! I rebooted Muppetbot's server but forgot to restart Muppetbot's programs. I added a watcher program that emails me if Muppetbot ain't running. Meanwhile, the Goatee voting has been fierce, but the Goatee side always has had more votes! I'm growing it back. Will it be upgraded, enhancing their user's experiences? Or will it be merely re-enforced against Sparkybot and Muppetbot? Stay tuned! ========= 2001/04/15 News ========= MUPPETBOT returns! The blatent 000000-Muppetbot user has been foregone for a more subtle entity created by the user Sparky. Kudos to Sparky!! Remember, Muppetbot can't announce itself any more. So, please tell a friend how to use muppetbot's pages! ========= 2001/03/09 News ========= JDATE BLOCKS MUPPETBOT. Or more accurately, they shut down 1/3 of their chat site to stop muppetbot. Rumor has it they are upset I might be making money off of a program I wrote myself, run on my own server, and enhances for free their own chat service. And they were even willing to sacrifice your jdate service to stop it! Brilliant. ========= 2001/03/07 News ========= Added a nifty javascript+form method of selecting preferences for the pics, sort, and refresh period. Please let me know if it doesn't work for you. I tested it on Netscape 4 and IE 5. ========= 2001/02/17 News ========= Vacation! I went the the caribbean and met a dreamy sweatheart ... who lives on the other side of the USA. Oh the torture! Supposably I will be getting a visit someday. ========= 2001/02/12 News ========= OH!!! I'm such a fool!! I posted the testing instead of the real IPs to the muppetbot page and nobody could get in. Doh!!! Sorry everybody!! The new IP is fixed!! ========= 2001/02/11 News ========= Another IP Re-numbering!! Muppetbot is down from ??? to Sunday morning. After fixing it, spent a little more time to reformat the selection menu, adding sixty-second refreshing as an option and a refresh button that works through AOL's proxy cache. ========= 2001/01/16 News ========= IP Re-numbering!! Muppetbot's firewall crashes as its IP changes out from under it. It's back up in half a day, and I've updated the muppetbot pages to point to the new IP address. Good thing you bookmarked the geocities page and not the IP page!! ========= 2001/01/04 News ========= Happy New Year!! Muppetbot has been given an assistant! A second bot lurks in the chat room and helps out muppetbot when it can't get back into the full chatroom. I'm in the process of having it live in another room so it doesn't take up a main chat slot. Anyway, there is also an error message when Muppetbot can't log in, but now, it shouldn't be showing up very often, if at all! (Famous last words) ========= 2000/12/20 News ========= Muppetbot has been freezing a lot of late. I added some safety checks ... Now when problems occurs muppetbot should time out and then a new muppetbot will log in. ========= 2000/12/17 News ========= Whoops! Tripod.com shut down the muppetbot pages. The pages have been moved into a temporary server, and I'm looking for another home for them again. ========= 2000/11/16 News ========= Thanks to Dennis Rodman for helping me with my HTML. The modem and Netscape users should have an easier process loading the pics. Also added a No-Pics and All-Pics sections so users have a choice between zero, one, and max pictures per person. ========= 2000/10/24 News ========= WHAT?!?! Muppetbot's IP is blocked by JDate's tech team as ... huh, a threat? Well, read all about it in the saga pages. ========= 2000/10/22 News ========= CRASH! Muppetbot's ISP lost its DHCP server again (see 10/02). I hardwired the IP into the firewall as a kludge, it seems to be working but it is a total duct-tape/bandaid kludge. When the ISP gets things fixed again I'll need to reconfigure it. In English: Muppetbot went away today for a bit, and sometime in the future it'll go away for a bit again. Please be understanding. No flipping! ========= 2000/10/17 News ========= Brought muppetbot up on americansingles.com. Hmmm. Gotta say, am I glad I'm Jewish!! Quality of people & conversation in jdate chat seems much higher than over there. Considered adding a new page, showing the faces of everybody who chatted each day. Probably too intrusive to privacy, huh? I'll leave that out! Whine if you want it added, Yeehah if you're thrilled I didn't. ========= 2000/10/04 News ========= Guestbook added. ========= 2000/10/02 News ========= On 20000930 (Saturday) morning my ISP connection crashed, and it stayed mostly crashed over the entire weekend. Additionally, I was too occupied with the Landmark Forum to notice until Sunday and to get a "we're crashed" message out in a timely manner. Things went back up today and are looking good. Phew! Additionally, I must express a Major Doh!!! There was a bug in Muppetbot -- identically named people would block each other and only one would show. This was found by BostonSteven (17496), and many, many thanks Steven for your help!! ========= 2000/09/28 News ========= Added Faces-Only and Sorted-By-Height pages. ========= 2000/09/27 News ========= OK, I'm officially back from vacation! The new tracking capabilities of Muppetbot are working and charts are being built and are up. Muppetbot notes the number of people from each Country, State (USA or Canada), and age range. Donno if they will be useful but they make a pretty picture. No complaints have occurred so we'll stay on this temporary server for now. ========= 2000/09/08 News ========= I am going on vacation. I have moved the muppetbot pages off of acmecity to a borrowed server. Why? In case acmecity kicks muppetbot off and somehow my unattended scripts go wild and keep pummeling acmecity to the point I get some legal attention. Better safe than sorry!
