UMW MUSIC HONOR
SOCIETY WINS AWARD

Fredericksburg, Va. - The University of Mary Washington's Phi Psi chapter of the music honor society Mu Phi Epsilon has been named Outstanding Collegiate Chapter of the Atlantic Province.

The award is given to the chapter that best represents the ideals and goals of Mu Phi Epsilon. UMW's chapter excelled over eight other distinguished chapters in the Atlantic Province, including New England Conservatory, Boston University, Julliard, Peabody and the University of Maryland.

The Phi Psi chapter was chosen to receive the award because of its community service projects, academic and professional programs and the help it provides to the UMW Department of Music. The chapter hosts a series of music workshops throughout the year for elementary school students to introduce them to classical music, as well as free special events and concerts for the community. Additionally, the Phi Psi chapter offers free music theory tutoring to all UMW students.

Mary Washingtons Phi Psi chapter was established in 1946 and seeks to promote and inspire music on campus and in the greater community.
