Tell me more

Music, Friendship, Harmony - these are the ideals of Mu Phi Epsilon. We actively promote music, scholarship and musicianship in our universities, communities, and throughout the world.

Mu Phi Epsilon was founded on November 13, 1903 at the Metropolitan College of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. Today, Mu Phi Epsilon has well over 125 collegiate chapters in three countries, over 70 alumni chapters, and more than 70,000 members! The Mu Phi Epsilon Centennial was celebrated in Cincinnati, August of 2003.

In addition to the International Concert Artist Competition, Mu Phi Epsilon International and the Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation give many awards to collegiate and alumni members. These awards range from scholarships to summer music programs such as the Aspen Music School, to grants for foreign study, doctoral research, and awards in specific musical areas, such as composition, voice, or music therapy. All of the application forms and details of each award are published in our quarterly magazine, the Triangle. There are numerous local music competitions which are sponsored by local alumni chapters as well.

To join Mu Phi Epsilon you must be a music major or minor at the collegiate level, or if you wish to join an alumni group (in case we missed your college days), a music professional in any area of music.

So what exactly does Mu Phi Epsilon do?

Along side all the individual projects that the chapters do, Mu Phi Epsilon also.... Provides scholarship assistance to music students at International Music Centers
Advance American music through original composition competitions, musicological research contests, American music and multicultural programs, and commissioned works.
Assist national music organizations such as Music Educators National Conference, Music Teachers National Association, and we provide scholorships and contests on an international level for members.
Support a life-long bond of friendship among its members.
