Introduction
The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and
Health Sciences recognizes the importance for medical students of finding the
right internship. Following
important initiatives carried out last year by the Overseas Medical Student's
Society (with the assistance of the Clinical Schools), the Faculty has
determined to provide a higher level of support to international students
seeking internships.
The Faculty, however, cannot find
an internship for you; you must do this for yourself. This booklet has been developed to provide a framework for
applying for internship positions. It
is recognized that finding and applying for internship positions is not always
an easy task, as up-to-date information about specific internships is needed and
this information is subject to constant change. This booklet tries to address a goal and strategy approach to
seeking internships, which can supplement ˇ§word-of-mouthˇ¨ information and
discussion. Each country will be
considered separately, as academic, application and immigration requirements
differ. Websites are able to
provide the most up-to-date information and should be consulted if possible.
As academic, application and
immigration requirements differ from country to country, each country will be
considered separately.
Also, the Overseas Medical
Student's Society conducts a seminar each year to provide general information on
internships. The Faculty will
contribute to this seminar. This
booklet will be available for reading or downloading on the OMSS website at http://www.geocities.com/collegepark/grounds/7722
Finally, a request from us - if
you find a good source of accurate, up-to-date information, please let us know
so that we can pass this on to other students.
In this way we hope that this booklet can develop into a really useful
and informative guide to internships internationally.
