Born in Yambol in 1852, send by his father to learn shoe-making skills. His unquenchable thirst for education lead him to the American Theological School in Plovdiv. After graduating he was send to preach in Bania and Gorna Djumaia. On October 7th 1888 he was ordained as Pastor of the Evangelical Church in Haskovo. He spend 57 years of his earthly life as minister of the Gospel(of these 25 serving in Panagurishte).
Due to his strong character and devoted nationalism Rev. Petranov served
actively in the liberation movement of Bulgaria. As
minister in Pazardjic he visited also Panagurishte and Tzerovo, therefore
he was in-trusted with the mail of the Revolutionary
Committee. In Pazardjic evangelical church was gathering in the inn
owned by Stoyan Angelov(Red Stoyan). The Inn was also visited by G. Benkovski
and V. Levski. When G. Benkovski commented on Petranov " You are clean
before the Turks , no one will suspect you, when you go from town
to town to preach, you will carry the Revolutionary Organization mail",
he responded "There are two things I love most voyvodo... God and Bulgaria".
Veliko Petranov passed away on March 15th 1936, at 84 years of age.
