This Year�s Premier Auto Parts Munster autotest Championship was hard fought this year, with Gerry Lunch and Alan Clarke battling all season for the overall title. Gerry Lynch (TCS) started off the championship beating Alan for the first five events. Alan Clarke (Mini Special) then was able to show he still had it in him beating Gerry in the next three rounds. The rest of the season was a battle between Lynch and Clarke until on the final round in Kerry saw Alan in the lead by one point. It was down to the wire, but Lynch gave an outstanding performance winning the event by an amazing 32 seconds. Alan Clarke will have to wait yet another year to try and get his hands on the Championship title. The rest of the field also saw some great competition, Mike Cashman drove a consistent championship to come in third overall, Class BI, , a new class brought in 2 years ago. This new class has created great interest, bringing in larger cars which are allowed to be cut down and modified in the same way as the mini specials. Mark Coughlan (Starlet Special) scored maximum points in 6 out of the 9 counting rounds to take the class. Class B again saw a steady drive from Victor Beamish which brought him the class win and 5th overall. Class C saw Don Giles (Westfield), Norman Giles (Triumph special) and Peter Desmond (Westfield) having a close fought battle all year, but in the end Don took the class and 4th overall. Liam Croston (Starlet) was the clear winner in class D, scoring maximum points in all 9 rounds, with Mike Mulcahy (Micra) putting in a charge at the end of the season, but it was not enough, Mike had to settle for 2nd in class. Class F was another interesting class, with Gerard Breen (Starlet), Damien Holian (Civic) and Denis Marcus (Corolla Special) all battling for honours, Damien was the winner after the final round, beating Gerard Breen by just 1 point. Class G was a runaway for Sean Liston from Newcastle West in his Starlet Special, despite being dogged with mechanical problems all year.
