SAMBAS REGENCY

Dragon Cerramic craft Centre

Its name derived  from Chiness " San Kew Jong " means town that lies on the mountain side near to the sea and mouth of a river. It is bounded by mount Pasi, Mount Sakkok, Mount Poteng and the Natuna Sea.
Situated 6 kms from Singkawang in the southern outskirts. The process of the dragon cerramic in classic and modern design can also be seen here.
 
 



Pasir Panjang Beach

Pasir Panjang beach has long been a popular recreation site, facing the Natuna Sea, toward the west faces some little inslands nearby namely ; Lemukutan island, Kabung island, Randayan island and some other small islands. Small boatss and speed boat cana be hired from here to the island. Budget hotel, cottages, shops, discotheque, swimming pool and other touris facilities are available. Faces toward the westoffering beautiful sunsets. It is only 18 kms from Singkawang City. The most convenient trasportations to and from Pasir Panjang is the public verhicles, taxis, mini buses and private vechicles.



Batu Payung Beach

This recreations spot is located a little further down the coast from Pasir Panjang. It offers white sandy beaches and exentive panoramas with the distant of little fascinating islands. It is a quiet place for relax. About 20 kms from Singkawang and can be reached in 30 minutes by bus or private vechicles. Accomudations and restourants are available.



Gosong Beach

Located in the south of Singkawang, is one hour drive from Singkawang or two hours from Pontianak passing through pretty villages.
This dignity one spot to be visited . It offers wide sandy beaches, an extensive panorama with the distant of Semesak island that can be reached by on food when the sea falls. The long stretch of the beach has allowed it to remain comperatively uncrowded.
Dispite the fact that it is a popular weekend resort for holiday makers from Singkawang and others. A camping ground is available.



Randayan Island

This little is land is known for its beautiful coral found nearby and the wealth of tropical fish inhabiting the water and othe marine lives around it. There are some comfortable smal villas face toward the beautiful green sea.
It takes 2 hours by speed boat to get to this beautiful island from Pasir Panjang.



Tanjung Batu
It is the only tourist resort which lies at a small sea port town. Pemangkat north of Singkawang. Lying on a huge rock situated at the broad Sambas Mouth River toward the South Chiness Sea. Filled with myriad of tropical fish life among the corals.
The traditional boat races  also take place in this site. A number of hotels, restourant and shops are available. It is about 30 minutes drive from Singkawang.



Sebedang Lake

It was formerly the Sultan of Sambas resting place. About 52 kms north of Singkawang. It is 500 metres above sea level. The drive to Lake Sebedang passed through picturesque villages, paddy fiels, coconut trees and orange plantations.
It is an ideal place for fishing and boating. The lake is surrounded by a dense forest abounds with birds of various species of wild animals. Located in the district of Sambas and reachable by buses or private verhicles.



Sambas Sultanate Palace
The palace with its grand Malayan Architecture has complete colllections of historical inheritance instruments, lies at the cross of Sambas Kecil River known as Muara Ulakan. It is founded by Sultan Mulia Ibrahim Tsjafioeddin, the ninth Sultan of Sambas in 1933. It is 75 kms from Singkawang and accessible by public or private vechicles.



Mount Poteng And Raflesia Flower

Mount Poteng is like a massive thumbof human, signing of recognition. It is 4 kms south e east of Singkawang and 700 metres above sea level.
There is a pleasant historical Dutch colonial swimming pool with its crystal clear water, and the plants os Raflesia which blooms only once a year. It can be reached by private vechicles up to the mountain.

The rare flowers Raflesia Arnoldi which are only visible in the Mount Poteng and the Mount Raya.



Long House

This is the place where the yearly Dayak Tribes' custom ceremony held regularly on April 27th of  the year.
During the ceremony, performances of Dayak such as traditional music, folk dances, a wide variety of Dayanese hadcrafts and other works of art are visible.



Merasap Waterfall

The waterfall  is in the district of Sanggau Ledo. 130 kms east of Singkawang, threes hours drive either by public or private verhicles.
The 27 metres waterfall is surrounded by the dense virgin tropical forest with various species of wild animals. It is one of one the virgin resirt with ist crystal clear water.



Raya Pasi Nature Reserve

Cover an area of 3,700 sq.km Raya Pasi Nature reserve is also land are well known for their beautiful coral and marine life are naturally suitable for diving, swimming, fishing or water skiing. Speedboat transport to the islands can easily be sought locally. Accomodation is not currently available on the island.


Sambas Woven Cloth

This traditional woven cloth by the Sambas people of " Kain Sambas ". This is the most well known cloth in the region of West Kalimantan with its kinds of motif in vibrant colors. More Asian people either from western country are very interested in and should not be missed their visit to meet such home industry of Desa Pandawan, Desa Manggis, and Desa Semberang (Sub District).
Even their purchases are considered to be in large quality. When shopping for Kain Sambas be prepared to bargain is curretly available.
