FLORA AND   FAUNA

M ost of the areas in West Kalimantan are tropical rainforest approx. 9,599,000 sq.km or more than 67% wide. With the Dipteropaceae family ranging from Ramin, Medang, Meranti, Jelutung, Kecaba, Tengkawang and Rattan. These families become the major production. Whilst the tiny orchid and pinang Merah to the giant Rafflesia can be seen at the Mandor and Bukit Kelam Nature Reserves. The popular species such as Orangutan (Pongo Pygmaneus), Kukang (Nyticebus Coucang), Kelempiau (Hylobates Mulleri), Bekantan (Narsalis larvatus), Rusa (Cervus Unicolor), Burung Enggang (Buceros Rhinoceros), Trenggiling (Manis Javanica), Burung Dara Laut (Sternidae), Bangau Tong Tong (Leptotilos Javanicus), Beruang Madu (Heractos Malayanus) and Kancil (Tragules Javanicus) can also be seen and teemed in natural bush setting. A vast agriculture produce include palm oil, rubber, coconut, coffee, cocoa, corn, rice and some other vegetables and friuts such durian, rambutan, sawo, pepaya, semangka, and cempedak.

Known by such names Ikan Silok, Ikan Khayangan and Ikan Naga, or Red Arwana (Seleropages formosus or Asian Bonitongue is among the most sought after per-fishes in the world. Long prized by the Indonesia people for its beauty, and believed to bring good luck, the Red Arwanais now bred for commercial sales by PD " Bintang Kalbar of Pontianak.
