For What Its WorthAuthor: munky
ON WIT DA FIC!! Neville Longbottom was having a seriously bad, rotten, no good day. Like Murphy's Law, everything bad that was bound to happen sometime, happened then. Well, to be honest, the day hadn't started off being a bad one; in fact, it had started out pretty well. To be even more specific, the day had started so well, it's worth mentioning. He woke up languidly, smiling at the memory of a dream involving himself and his secret crush, Percy Weasley. Now Neville wasn't at all sure if he was that way, but he knew he was certainly attracted to the serious-minded young professor of Arithmancy. He had always liked Percy for his honesty and straightforwardness, but ever since the redheaded man had returned to Hogwarts to teach, something had changed inside and Neville found himself head over heels for him. Unfortunately, that enjoyment didn't last long. As he got up out of bed, he realized that he'd overslept and if he didn't hurry, he'd be late to Arithmancy again and incur his favorite teachers displeasure. The dream was long forgotten in the mad scramble and dash for clothing. Neville's dark brown eyes narrowed in annoyance as he noticed a large stain from Potions on his only set of clean robes. He grunted in reluctant acquiescence as he threw them on and scooped up his books. That was when his wand decided to slip from his hand, clattering on the varnished mahogany floor of the Gryffindor boys dorm. With a sour sigh, Neville placed his books on the unmade bed and got on hands and knees to search for it underneath. A sudden mocking laugh made him jump, banging his head on the four-poster's wooden frame. Pain screeched throughout his skull and he reared back from underneath, a hiss of displeasure passing from his lips. He looked up to see a smug Draco Malfoy smirking back. "Well, wellif it isn't Gryffindor's little pet chicken. Hiding from Weasley, the big, bad Arithmancy teacher, hmm, Longbottom? By the way.," and with that, he snickered, "From this vantage pointI see why your last name is so appropriate in your case." Neville flushed red and stood up, embarrassed. For some reason, Draco Malfoy always seemed to be able to get the best of him. It was so irritating and yet, except for a few rare occasions, he'd never had the courage to stand up to the sneering platinum-haired boy. Especially today, when he was pointing out a behavior everyone else had noticed too. He *had* been acting oddly since the beginning of the term with Percy around, to be honest, but having someone like Malfoy teasing him about it was downright embarrassing. "What do you want, Malfoy? was all he could manage. Draco snickered again as he walked away. "Nothing from you, Longbottom. Although, I've heard certain rumors that you're quite handy with your mouth." Neville flushed even hotter. Odds to evens, Draco was probably the source of all the rumors flying around about him. He was trying to think up a suitable retort when he realized that Malfoy was already gone. "Stupid mealy-mouthed git," he growled to himself, ducking back under the bed to retrieve his wand. Now he was really going to be late to class and it was all Draco's fault. If Malfoy hadn't bothered him, he might've had a chance to get to class on time. //What's Percy going to say this time? Is he going to give me detention, or is he going to excuse my behavior again? I just hope he gives me detentionthe others already know he treats me differently and I don't want it to be that way.// Those thoughts rushed in his head like water rushing down a drain as he scurried out the portrait hole and down the corridors to the Arithmancy classroom. He paused nervously before entering the classroom, heart beating drum-like in his chest as he listened to the lecture from behind the door. A pale, sallow-skinned hand clamped on his shoulder and he barely bit back a squawk of startled surprise. His heart leapt into his throat as he turned his head and gazed into the annoyed face of Professor Snape of all people. //Oh bollocks// "Loitering in the hall, Longbottom? Isn't there a class you should be in?" A dark eyebrow arched as Snape pinned him with a cold, dark-eyed stare. Neville swallowed hard and nodded, too frightened of Snape to trust his voice. He glanced significantly at the door and gripped the handle in his hand to show that he was about to enter the Arithmancy classroom. "You'd better answer me young man, or ten points will be taken off from Gryffindor." Snape sneered archly at the small trembling young man, secretly reveling in Neville's fear of him. The brunette cleared his throat again before he spoke, head bowed as he gazed down and shuffled his feet nervously. "Yes sir. I should be in Arithmancy right now, Professor Snape." "See that you get there in a more timely fashion next time. I'm sure Professor Weasley won't be at all pleased by you interrupting his class, Longbottom." With that pointed remark, Professor Snape glided away, a savage snarl on his lips as he left. //Damn him and his snotty ways. He's just like Malfoy; a big bully who knows how to push me around and make my life downright miserable.// Neville stood there, shaking and dripping with the sweat of fear as he tried to catch his breath. His hand shook nervously as he finally got the courage to turn the doorknob and step inside. Noticing that Percy was distracted in teaching the rest of the class about some complicated theorem, Neville slinked into his usual seat and quietly began to take notes as well. He froze like a deer in the headlights as Percy turned back and pinned him with a curious, benevolent gaze. Nervously, he watched Percy mouth a message to him as he pointed to the blackboard. 'I need to speak with you after class, Neville. Its very important.' //I'm in for it now,// Neville thought, paling at the thought. Finally, Percy was going to punish him equally as he had with other students who disobeyed. It was only fair, but the prospect of detention made him feel ill anyhow. The rest of the class was torture, dragging on and on and on. Neville sat there in his seat, shifting his feet nervously underneath his bench and shifting his eyes back and forth from Percy to the clock on the wall. When Seamus Finnegan tapped him on the shoulder to ask him a question, he made a startled squeak and blushed as the rest of the class laughed at him. Percy just frowned and ordered the class to pay attention, turning back to the blackboard. Finally, the Victorian style clock chimed out lunchtime and the majority of the class peeled out of the classroom. Neville stood behind, nearly biting his nails down to nothing as he waited for the rest of the class to leave so Percy could talk with him alone. "Neville, calm down. Otherwise, you won't have any fingers left to help you take notes." Percy walked up to his side, calmly smiling. From his point of view, Neville could see the faint smattering of freckles across the taller man's nose. "I'm sorry PercyI mean, Professor Weasley. It's just th-that" Neville stuttered, pulling his shaking hand from his mouth. He dropped his gaze down to his feet, unable to look into Percy's sparkling blue eyes and see any form of disapproval in them. Its all right, Neville. You can call me Percy if it makes you more comfortable. Im not that much older than you. Neville looked up, eyebrows arched in shock as he reacted to Percys words. He usually was more strict and by the books. Surprised? Ive changed a lot since Barty Crouch and the Ministry of Magic at the Triwizard Tournament. What happened there changed my way of thinking all the way around. Not only have I loosened up, but I realized something about myself too. Neville swallowed around the lump building in his throat. Y-y-you did? What was th-th-that? Percy smiled at him softly, before blushing shyly like a little boy. Ive always liked you a lot, Neville, but until after the Tournament and Cedrics death, I could never realize how much you meant to me. Neville gave him a sweet little smile, but then frowned in the middle of it. Is that why you dont punish me? Because you like me? Well, yes. I know its unfair of me, but you always seem to get good grades despite your tardiness. Yknow, if you punished me more often, we could spend time together in detention. Neville mumbled shyly. Not that Im recommending that of course Well, you do deserve to be punished for being late Percy began, a wicked smile developing on his face, and it is unfair to the other students. Neville shivered at the promise in Percys tone. Ive always wanted to date a teacher Percy was quiet for a moment, then he leaned forward to look into Nevilles eyes, intent on his facial expression. Would you ever want to be kissed by one? Please, Neville breathed out, pressing himself against Percy. He sighed as he felt arms wrap around him, keeping him safe, then looked up as Percys mouth descended towards his own; wet and eager to be kissed for the first time. The kiss started out soft, like the brush of a butterflys wings against a flower petal, then Neville opened up to the insistent pressure of Percys lips and it grew heated. Tongues entwined and the rest of the world suddenly didnt matter anymore. Finally, the kiss ended after both of them ran out of air. They broke apart; Neville was sweaty and flushed while Percy nervously adjusted his robes and smiled at him. For my first kiss, that was incredible! Neville enthused, face glowing with excitement. That was your first kiss? I thought! Percy was dumbstruck. Maybe confessing his love to Neville hadnt been such a good idea, but hed done it anyway. Neville smiled at him again. I liked it a lot! Can we do it again? Percy held him tightly and kissed his forehead. Well have a lot more time in detention. As Neville snuggled against his red-haired crush, he realized that today wasnt so bad after all. Detention was worth it, especially since Percy would be there too. ~END~ Additional Author Notes: My first non-Harry/Draco or Cho/Ginny story. Hope I didnt screw up too bad on it. ::grins hopefully:: Its kinda short, I know, but Im just trying to settle into writing this ship. Please bear with me. Comments and Constructive Criticism can be sent my way, while flames will be used to keep Percy and Neville warm during those long winter nights, so :p Bai!
