James is Michael Gruber's best friend. His family moved to Bayside, FL when he was 3 and he and Michael attended preschool all the way through high school together. James has gotten Michael in alot of trouble, but their friendship has never failed.

James is now attending The University of Illinois in Chicago where he was Michael's roommate before Michael and Rebecca married. He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and is shortstop for the school baseball team.
