Introduction
Wuhan University of Technology (WHUT) is a key
university under the direct administration of the
Education Ministry by the authority of the State Council,
P.R. China and is selected among the State 211 Project.
WHUT is located in Wuhan City, covering nearly 5,000mu,
with the total build-up area 1.6 million square meters. It
possesses 4 modern completely equipped libraries, with a
total stock of more than 3.5 million books.
The university has various reasonably-structured
disciplines, including natural sciences, engineering,
humanities, managements, economics, law, philosophy,
education and medicine, etc. WHUT is authorized to confer 78
bachelor degree programs, and there are 3 national key
subjects, 30 ministerial or provincial subjects, 9
first-class doctoral degree programs, 61 second-class
doctoral degree programs, 17 first-class master degree
program, 132 second-class master degree programs as well as
master degree programs of Engineering (in 21 fields), MBA,
MPA, MFA, etc and 7 post-doctoral mobile stations. The
university establishes many high-level research centers,
among which there are 2 national key laboratories, 2
industrial experimental bases and 58 joint centers with big
enterprises both at home and abroad.
The university pays high attention to the development of
teaching faculty and possesses rich human resources.
Presently, it has over 3,000 academic faculty members (the
total staff is nearly 6,000), among which there are 540
professors, 1163 vice professors, 253 doctor supervisors,
1170 master supervisors; 5 academicians, 1 chief scientists
in �973 Project�, 4 Cheungkong Scholars, 7 Chutian Scholars;
79 middle-aged and young experts achieving outstandingly in
national and provincial level, 212 members entitled to
special subsidies from the central and local government.
There are more than 35,000 full-time undergraduates, 12,000
graduates for Doctoral and Master Programs and 185 students
from foreign and Hongkong, Macow, Taiwan, etc.
The university has made obvious achievements in
scientific research and the industrialization of scientific
fruits. In recent years, it undertook lots of projects in
the Fund of National Natural Science, �973 Project�, �863
Project� and Ministerial and Provincial Key Projects. The
total outlay of scientific research amounts to 330million.
In the program of �Ten Five-year Plan�, it undertook more
than 1,500 various projects and obtained over 200 awards,
among which there are seven nationals and 103 ministerial
and provincials; applied for 715 patents and 235 of them
were authorized; 2233 academic theses were included in the
world �Three Searches�, for which the whole outlay is
￥1.053billion. Large numbers of high-level research fruits
are in application and dissemination. The school scientific
industry is developing healthily and steadily with the
representatives of optic fiber sensors, high-speed shipping,
motor automobile, new material, harbor mechanics and
advanced manufactures, etc. The Sci-tech Zone of WHUT,
located in Wuhan Silicon Valley, covering 800mu, has taken
shape.
