What If the Child Has a Severe Disability?

Prenatal testing is like 'looking' into the womb. We can now determine the gender of the child, and also if he/she has any disabilities. By knowing about their baby, prenatal testing helps parents feel closer to their unborn child.

Increasingly, prenatal testing is used to find disabilities so it can be 'cured' by killing the child. Such 'search and destroy' tactics are based on eugenics mentality, which says that some human lives (those that do not meet and arbitrary standard of mental or physical health) are not worthy to be lived.

When abortion is used to solve the problem of a disability it is discrimination of the most severe kind. These children are not merely discriminated against for their disability, they are KILLED because of it! Consider the suggestion of killing a person with Down's syndrome in order to "cure" him.

What if the baby's going to die anyway?

The difference is great between parents who abort a severely handicapped child and parents who love and nurture their severely handicapped child, accepting death when it comes. The is a huge difference between a natural death and intentionally ending a life. Those parents who knows that they allowed God to have control over the life of their precious little baby have a much easier time grieving the loss than those parents who caused the death of their child. Abortion is the ultimate child abuse.

Won't they live a terrible life?

How can anyone judge someone else's quality of life? If you were to ask a severely handicapped person if you could kill them, do you think they'd say yes? Do you think the unborn children don't want to have a chance at life? Just because they may not look or run or think as well of you does not mean that they can't have a life and be loved.

No one will want to adopt a severely handicapped child

Not true! The Spina Bifida Foundation of America and The Michael Fund have 1000+ couples waiting (that means there aren't enough to go around) to adopt a child that needs a little more love and care. Plus there are special foster homes that exclusively care for children with disabilities.
