Lily's Story
She swam close to the ocean floor, bringing up sand as she swam. She was looking for treasures to show her friends. She swam by the school of yellow tangs and turned left at the brain coral buried in the sand. Just beyond that was the newly sunken ship. The ship looked burnt as if it had been in a fire. So when she came up to the ship she stopped short to make sure it looked sound to go in. She entered into the large burnt out hole in the side of the ship and progressed slowly so she didnt hit anything. She found chests of trinkets and pried them open to look inside. The last chest she opened she found the most interesting jewel. She picked it up out of the small chest. It was laying in a blue velvety like material. She held it in her one hand and the sun shinning through a crack in the ship caught it and made it sparkle and shine. Oooo they are going to love this. She said to herself. She carefully carried the round jewel out of the ship and put it down in the sand below her. As she turned to go back into the ship to retrieve more treasures she had come across the ship started to rumble and shake. She saw the roof cave in to the bottom of the ship. She swam back to get out of the way of the uplifted sand and debris flying through the water. Once everything had settled back down she looked at the ship. The shell of the ship was still standing. She inched closer and closer and stuck her head in the burnt hole and peeked around. All the roof from the two floors above had collapsed to the bottom. And debris was still falling. She went back and picked up the round jewel and left the ship. She would come back later or tomorrow when it had settled down to pick up the other treasures she found. On her way back she ran into the same school of yellow tangs and kept swimming past them to the palace. The closer she got to the palace the more she saw the hustle and bustle of mer-life. Instead of going back to her home in the palace she stopped in the gardens and sat and looked at the jewel. She held it up, turned it around and switched hands with it. She laid down and held it up so the sunlight caught it. She rolled back over onto her stomach and held it in her right hand. She dreamed what it was used for. Could it have been for luck, for wishes. Could it have been part of a necklace? As the thoughts raced through her head something startled her. She snapped out of her thoughts and looked at the garden entrance. It was her father. Her father looking regal and daunting had told her no more treasure hunting weeks ago. If he caught her with a new treasure she would surely be grounded. She quickly hid the jewel in the coral and waited for her father to approach her. Hi daddy. Lily you were to be at the palace ballroom at 2. Oh my goodness. I totally forgot. I am sorry daddy I was out for my afternoon swim. How are you suppose to learn to find a good prince with the dancing skills you have? I know. Are they still there? Yes get along and you can catch up. Thanks daddy. She stood up and started swimming with her father back to the palace. She quickly looked back and made sure her jewel had stayed out of sight.
