updated 6/24/03 included SysReset guide
Ok. Here’s a guide to help you get on IRC and join us.
First you’ll have to download an IRC client, the basic MIRC or if you’re like me who likes advance features in MIRC to help download files easier then get SYSRESET.
Once you have the program installed and running you’ll need to connect to the Aniverse server. Use the following steps:
1.) Click on FILE menu and then click on OPTIONS and you’ll see the following window.

2.) To the far right of this window you’ll see the button “Add” “Edit” etc. To the left of the “Add” button click on the drop down list and find “Aniverse” and select that as the IRC Network as shown on this picture.
3.) Fill out the 4 text boxes Full Name, Email Address, Nickname and Alternative. You can make up anything. It doesn’t matter. Nickname is your screen name.
Next we’ll configure the download folder and the file types to receive.
On the same window, scroll down on the vertical scroll bar and click on DCC.
4.) Make the same configurations as the following window. Click on Auto-get file and check minimize. Select Resume for if file exists drop down list. Lastly, click on Auto-accept for On Chat request.

5.) Now click on Folders under DCC. You’ll see 3 buttons on the top right. The default DCC Get( download ) folder is where you installed MIRC. To change this click on Edit button and then choose a folder(make sure the folder has enough space to hold downloads).

6.) We’ll need to protect ourselves on IRC because we have Auto-get turned on which means we’ll take anything anyone sends us. But we don’t need anything anyone sends us especially malicious files from malicious users. So look at the following window.

Below the three buttons “Add”, “Edit” and “Delete” you’ll see DCC Ignore drop down list. Click and select “Ignore all except”. Then on the combo list box below DCC Ignore drop down list type the file type you like to receive and click “Add” button on the right of it. Enter 1 file type at a time and click Add. For example: Type *.avi and then click Add. Then type another and click Add and so forth repeating until done.
7.) Click on Server under DCC and make the same configuration as shown on the following window.

8.) All right we’re ready to join channels. Go back to the Connect Window.

Click on Connect to IRC Server button. If connection to server is ok you’ll be greeted on the Aniverse status window.

To join the channel use the “/join #channel name” command.
For example:
/join #azn-project (this will allow you to join the channel #azn-project)
/join #azn-project,#a.d.clan,#jdrama,#japan-tv (this command will allow you to join the 4 channels at once. Make sure there is no space in separating the comma and the next channel to join)
Here’s a picture of how it’s like once you’ve joined a channel

The window to the left is the chat screen. The window to the right is the user list. And the channels you’ve joined are on the bottom. All you need to do to go back and forth from channel to channel is click on the channel names. About users: The nicknames with @ in front of their name are the operators (moderators) of the channel. Nicknames with % are half operators. And nicknames with + are voiced (privilege) users. And normal users are ones without any of these symbols. Those who run servers get + voiced. Advantages to these are priority download on some file servers.
Type !list on the channel and a whole list of server ads will appear on the channel.

On this window it displays two server ads of two users, zflag and sasuke888.
To access their server type the Triggers on their ad. Zflag have 3 triggers you can access. Each trigger will give you access to different files. If you type /ctcp zflag jdrama you’ll have access to his Japanese dramas. If you type /ctcp zflag twdrama you’ll have access to his Taiwanese dramas and so forth. *if you highlight the mouse over the trigger you’ll be making a copy of the text. After that you’ll just have to right click and paste. No need to type.*
Here’s what happens after I typed the trigger /ctcp zflag twdrama

I get a chat (server) window from zflag. On this window it lists the commands I can use on the server, the number of sends, and number of queues currently.
“dir” command is used to list the files.
“cd” command is used to change folders or directory.
“cd ..” is used to go back up a folder or directory
“get” use used to queue a file for download
“exit” is used to exit the chat (server) window

There’s an idle time limit (usually 1-2mins) on how long you can stay on the server. Once the time limit is reached the server session will end. Do not camp on servers. That is do not stay on the server by repeatedly typing commands to stay active so you can get the next queue slot (if you do that for couple of minutes is ok but not hours). Also don’t hammer or going onto the server every few minutes on the server.
That’s it. I hope that wasn’t too bad. Ask in the channel if you need help and remember to respect all users. By the way, if you don’t get a response in the time you expected don’t get discouraged. Most the users are probably away and some don’t feel like answering for their reasons. But give it time and you’ll have your questions answered eventually by an operator or users returning from away.
If you don't want to type but click instead to do all your file browsing, queuing work then see SysReset guide
