Chapter:2 First Disagreement.

It was later in the week, and the morning sickness was at its worse mornings and nights, and despite that, Evelyn was still determined to do all the things she was used to, and it was worrying her new husband to no end. Now as she got ready for work, Rick was doing his best to talk her into staying home.

Evie, they lasted a whole month and a half without you. Whats a few more days? he asked, exasperated. As he talked, she walked around their room still getting ready.

Honestly Rick, its not that bad during the day, and anyway I know there are women who work much more difficult tasks than me, who have had babies, and who have been just fine. He ran a hand through his hair.

Okay, but Becky said you needed to rest, take it easy for a few days. That didnt sway her.

Yes, and I took two days off, but life has to go on, and I need to get myself used to things, re orient myself to things. That wont happen if I stay here all the time, She said coming to him. He gently pulled her into his arms, and they kissed, her one weakness. The brush she was holding in her hand dropped, and she lifted her hand, pulling his head closer to her, deepening the kiss, then pulled away out of breath.

Rick, I have to go to work, she said, not wanting to leave him. She closed her eyes taking a few deep breaths, then turned and walked away. It took all she had to do that, but if she didnt move fast, she never would. She gathered some papers she had brought home with her to work on, and when she was ready Rick drove her the little ways to the Museum. When they arrived she kissed him briefly.

Try not to worry too much, she said as they parted. He gave her that cute boyish grin that was so hard to resist.

Me worry? Evelyn smiled, then stepped out of the car, and went into the museum. He waited until she was safe inside, then went home. When he walked in Jonathan was awake having coffee, and some eggs.

Late night? his brother-in-law asked. Jonathan nodded.

Id say you two did as well. Rick sat down, and Jonathan noticed the worry in his eyes.

Shes being stubborn again, he told Jonathan. That made the man laugh a little.

That isnt anything you will ever change, she has always been that way. Rick nodded.

I dont want to change her, but I wish she would take it easy. Maybe she is right though. Rick sighed and stood. He was feeling tired.

Why dont we go out to the old hang out, get a drink. Rick shook his head.

Thats just not me anymore. He left and went up to their room, and sat on the bed. What was he going to do with her. He loved her, but he was frustrated that she wasnt listening to what her body was trying to tell her.

At the Museum, Evelyn was sitting in her office trying to work, but her stomach was rumbling, and she felt sick. She took in some deep breaths, blowing out, and breathing in, then got up to walk around, and felt the room spin around her. She tried to grab onto something, but fell, and everything went dark. It was only a moment later that Becky arrived to check on her, and found her on the floor. She hurried over and examined her, then yelled for help, and brought in two of the museum workers. One went to get her bag out of her car, and the other went to get Rick.

At the house, Jonathan was cleaning up around the kitchen, when someone knocked at the front door. He answered it, finding a young boy there.

We need Mr. OConnell, Evelyn is hurt, he said. Jonathan ran upstairs, finding Rick laying on the bed.

Rick, Evelyn is hurt, Jonathan said, running back downstairs to get dressed. Rick hurried and put his shirt back on, then, when he got downstairs both he and Jonathan went to the Museum to check on her. When they arrived the door to her office was closed, and Rick knocked. In a moment Becky answered, to a very worried Rick.

Shes fine, and she is going to take the rest of the week off per my request. You need to make her stay in bed. Rick nodded, and went in to the bench were Evelyn rested. He knelt down and kissed her lips, which woke her.

Hey beautiful. She gave a weak smile, and Rick gently lifted her into his arms, and carried her out to the car, taking her home to care for her.

It was the next moring when Rick felt her getting out of bed, and sat up worried that she was going to be sick. Feeling him move, Evelyn turned to him.

Im all right, just need to get a drink. She looked tired, and he started to offer to get it for her but she shook her head.

Ill be fine darling, she said leaning in to kiss him. Getting up made her stomach learch, but she was determined to get herself used to this. She had to get used to this. Once she was sure she wouldnt retch, she went to the bathroom, and filled a small glass with some water taking a few sips, then felt her stomach heave. She dropped the glass, causing it to shatter, and barely made it the short step to the toilet before she retched. Her hair fell in her face, and she did her best to hold it back, but it wasnt working. Then he was there to hold her hair back, and to support her while she finished retching the rest of what she had left in hers stomach which was not alot,

Oh Rick, I wish this would just stop, she said weakly. He lifted her into his arms, and got out a washcloth wetting it then rubbed it over her face as he carried her back to their bed. Gently he placed her on to the mattress, and left briefly, bringing back another glass of water. He helped her sit up and hold it, and after a few sips she slipped into sleep, and the worried father to be went to call Becky.

It was the entire first two months of her pregnancy that Evelyn had to deal with her morning sickness, and when it was finally over she was relieved as was Rick. Today, a beautiful Saturday found the couple taking a picnic lunch by the Nile. It was hot, but always a joy to come out where it was peaceful.

So how did the call go with the Bembridge Scholars, Rick asked his wife, as they ate their picnic lunch.

Fairly well, they want me to update the cataloging system at the museum, and that should take me up until this baby is born. She rubbed her hand on her slightly rounded tummy, causing her husband to smile. Ever the inquisitive one, she asked him what he was thinking of, what made him smile.

I was just thinking about us being parents, he admitted. She nodded.

It is a bit hard to imagine, we have been just us, or will have been just us for a little over 10 months, and then we will have a new life to care for. She was a bit frightened, not all that knowledgeable about how to care for a baby.

Im not sure Ill make a good mum for our baby, she admitted, which surpised him.

Why would you say that? Your smart, you will teach our baby all about Egypt, about the world around it. he pointed out.

But it takes more than that. What if its crying allot, and I cant make it stop crying, or what if I hurt it in some way, she asked, truly frightened. He came and settled beside her.

Evelyn this is us, you and me, and anything that happens is going to be with both of us there. We will figure it out together, and you can always speak with Becky about your worries. She has brought lots of babies into the world, Im sure she will help us with anything we need, he said. That did help her, and as she was relaxing, she suddenly gasped.

Whats wrong? she didnt answer him right away, and when it happened again, she brought his hand to her belly and pressed it there. For a moment Rick didnt understand, then beneath where his fingers were pressed, he felt a fluttering.

Thats... She nodded.

Hey little guy, he said rubbing his hand over her belly.

Or little girl, we dont want to call him a her or her a him, Evelyn told him. He wasnt listening, and rested his cheek against her belly. Evelyn smiled and reached down stroking his hair. This was nice, them being here like this, bonding with their child. She felt complete, and maybe it wouldnt be such a scary thing to have a baby around.

*******

The fourth month she was showing quite a bit, and Rick was driving Evelyn crazy. She loved him, but he was always there, trying to do everything for her, and finally one day she had enough. It was at the museum, and she was in the storage room lifting boxes that were quite heavy, when he came in and took the box she had which startled her.

You need to at least give me some warning, shes said annoyed at him. He didnt seem to notice that though.

Evelyn let me do this, he said.

Really Rick this isnt a big deal, and Im not straining myself, I just need to find a certain artifact, and I know I can but its easier for me to do it alone, she said hoping he would get her point, but he didnt.

Evelyn Becky said... and that was it.

Becky this and Becky that, she suddenly yelled which startled him.

Listen to me Rick. Im not sick. Pregnancy is not a disease, and yes my first two months were bad but since then Ive been fine. I would be better if you would just go on your way and let me tend to this on my own, she said hotly. he dropped the box he held.

Fine. you do this on your own, and Ill just leave you alone. he said fairly loud.

Good thats what I want, go away, she said and slammed the door in his face. She turned and almost fell over the box he had dropped, and that added to her anger. She sat down on an empty crate and let out a little scream. Why couldnt he just stop being such a worry wort Once she was cooled down she felt bad about yelling at him, but her work called to her, and for now it was forgotten.

*******

At home Rick sat on the couch looking at a glass of bourbon he had poured an hour ago, and had not touched. He sighed and as he set it down Jonathan came out of his room yawning, and noticed the glass.

You going to drink that? he asked. Rick looked up at him.

No have at it. He did, and sat down across from Rick.

You look rather glum, Jonathan said quick to notice. He nodded.

We had our first fight of sorts, and truthfully it was over nothing. I guess I have been on the protective side of things lately, to protective, so she let me know very fast that she was all right on her own. Jonathan nodded.

Shes strong you know. He did know that.

I know, I guess I just want her to need me. he admitted. The door opened, and Evelyn came in with groceries. Both men came to her, and she let them help her with her load. Once in the kitchen, Jonathan sent them upstairs to go relax, knowing they needed to talk. Now in their room Rick took her in his arms.

Im sorry Ive been so protective of you lately, he said kissing her forehead.

No, its my fault. I know you want to help me, and Im just not used to that, she said. Im sorry I yelled at you, He lowered his mouth to her lips.

There isnt anything for you to be sorry for, he said as he eased away from her.

We still have to learn about how to care of one another, and I guess I thought it would be easy, and now I realize it takes work and compromise. She nodded.

So Ill only help you when you ask for it. It was her turn to hold him.

I love you Rick, she said He lifted her into his strong arms, and carried her to their bed.

The best part about any argument, he said as he began to unbutton her blouse, is that you get to find fun ways to make up for them. He took his hand and traced it over the fine features of her face, over her nose, and her lips, then leaned in and kissed her there, tasting her sweet taste in his mouth. With his hands, he finished unbuttoning her blouse and pushed it off of her, leaving only the brassiere in place. She lifted up still kissing him, and he managed to get that off as well. He pulled away from her mouth and moved down to her neck, kissing her there, and nibbling, which caused her to gasp.

Rick, I need you, she said, her breath becoming labored. She was so easily aroused these days, and he didnt make her wait too long, removing his cloths and the rest of hers, then moving over top of her. She wrapped her legs around him pulling him down against her, and he pushed into her, causing both of them to gasp. The feeling of being inside her was always a welcome one, almost like going home, and as he began a steady gently rhythm he rained soft kisses on her face and her neck. Evelyn rubbed her hands down his back, down to his bottom and squeezed there which brought out a groan from him. She reached between their rocking bodies and below finding his sacks, squeezing them, which caused his movements to speed up a little. While she gave him pleasures with her hands on his sacks, Rick found his own way of giving her pleasure and licked over her breasts. He kissed them, then drew one into his mouth sucking lightly. Evelyn brought her hands to his head pulled him away wanting his mouth on her lips. He complied, delving his tongue in and out of her mouth, speeding his movements up to bring their releases. Her release came first, and she cried into his mouth, feeling her whole body respond to his loving movements. It was only moments later that his release came, and he propped himself on his lower arms so he could look into her eyes. He kissed her lips gently.

I love you, he told her. She smiled.

I love you too, She said. He moved off of her, and then gathered her in his arms for some rest, glad that they had made up. Their lives were quickly changing, and it wouldnt be long before a new life would be there with them, a life created from the love they made the first night they were together as husband and wife.
