| Evelyn sat at her desk in the Cairo museum, It was crowded with her favorite books on Egypt. She still had a craving for searching everything about hamunaptra. She couldn't get it out of her head. Her thought's lead her to O'connell they both swore they were meant for each other. But a couple months later he had given up on her. She gave the Museum all of her time and he felt she didn't want to see him anymore. She frowned. She felt terrible for what she had done, But when she realized it, it was just to late he had already unwillingly decided to leave her. She sighed, her heart ached. She shook it off and opened another book. "Oh here it is." She spoke out load. She looked around to make sure no one noticed she was talking to herself. She began to read, but still she couldn't stop thinking about O'connell and the countless times he saved her, His kiss... It took her off her feet, right then she knew she wanted more of him. "Oh for goodness sake girl, get over it." She slammed the book on the desk. 'Get over it? yeah right she just let the love of her life leave her for books for goodness sakes.' Disappointed with herself. She got up and walked around the museum thinking it would ease her pain. Sense she was now the curator she was aloud to do so without getting scolded for it. She know she had a lot to do, but she just didn't have the stability to do it. She turned to see book's that were out of order on a rack. Usually she didn't care but everything seemed to piss her off. "Nick?" She called out. He was supposed to be putting them back to where the belonged. She didn't get and answer. "Well, I guess I should do it myself." She took a handful of books and climbed the latter to the top. Once again she found a book that saw to go on the other side. She remembered what happened the last time and decided to keep that one her hand for now. She was finished with the others and started to climb down. Just as she got to the last step she lost her balance and fell backwards. Her arm slammed into the corner of the rack that occupied the sorted books. She laid there for a second to regain her strength to get up. "I hate this library." She snapped. She through the remanning books on the rack and gave up. "This isn't my job any how." She was frustrated. She walked into her office, she then felt a worm stream flowing down her arm. "Oh man." She realized she had cut herself pretty deeply. And ran to a near bathroom to cleaned her self. Without thinking she placed her arm under the water as burning sensation filled her entire arm. She bit her bottom lip to stop herself from crying out. She didn't want anyone to see her this way. She rapped a paper towel around her arm as tightly as she could. She walked out of the bathroom laughing at her clumsiness. Shaking her head in disgust with herself. "If I didn't have my head in the clouds this wouldn't have happened!" she nagged to herself. She entered her office and lifted some of the books with her free hand. Then as quickly but as carefully as she could she walked to the liberty. With in second's of being in the library she tripped and fell to the hard wood floor. The books scattered around her. Evelyn sighed. "I'm having a horrible day!" She tried not to cry. She realized there was some standing in front of her. She assumed it was Nick she began to collect the books without looking up. "Nick I really like you working here but I'm afraid you can't seem to get things done!" She didn't mean to yell, who was she to tell someone their not doing their job when she hasn't either. She still picked each book up one by one. "God Rick I wish you were here." She whispered sitting up just looking to the floor. She took a deep breath. "Well, Nick get down her and help!" The man leaned down. Lifting only one book handing it to her. She looked to the book reaching for it. But she froze. She knew those hands. "Here..." His soft voice, she wanted to hear more. "Am I dreaming?" She whispered. Feeling faint. "I hope not." His arm began to hurt from holding the book for so long. She still didn't look at him. She was afraid it was a dream. But if it was a dream she decided to make the best of it. She took the book and quickly fell into his arms. He held her tightly. "Your hurt..." He looked at her cut arm. The paper towel was damp with her blood. "I was afraid I would never see you again." She kissed him on the cheek. Dismissing what he said about her arm. She didn't feel it anymore. She didn't feel anything but him right now. 'He's finally here ' Evelyn was screaming that over and over in her head. She put her arms around his neck. The book was still in her hand. She was so stuck in the moment, that she forgot to let it go. She didn't bother asking him what he was doing there. She didn't care. As long as he WAS there was what mattered. She didn't know what to say. "Well, aren't you going to ask what I'm doing here?" He knew her to well. "No." She smiled. "I just thought...." Rick tried to speak. But she kissed him hushing his words. This was better then he though it would be. He kissed her back. She let go of the embrace to look into his eyes. He looked at the book that she had in her hand. She noticed this. And looked too. She smirked. And through it out of her hand behind her. He smiled at her behavior. "Evelyn?" "All the books, museums, Egyptian library's or adventures could never keep me from you ever again." She whispered. " I'm sorry. Please forgive me?" His heart raced. "I forgive you! Of course I forgive you." He kissed her again. Her supervisor walked in witnessing the moment.( Like all job's this was unexceptable behavior.) "Miss Carnahan!" The plump man stumbled out of the other room where he was finishing up on Evelyn's case report. He appeared to be in mid 30's, and had a very bad temper. He was starring at Evelyn with the most ugly expression. Rick and Evelyn both tried so hard not to laugh at him. "Jake!" She finally got the word out of her mouth. Her hand covering her smile. "I shall report this." He started out of the room. "Oh that will not be necessary." She turned to look back at Rick. And gave him a smile. One of her smiles saying 'Don't worry.' "And why is that." Jake snapped. Evelyn broke eye contact with Rick. But didn't let him go. In fear of losing him. In fear that still this is all was a dream. "Well,...Because.......... I quit." She turned to Rick's wide eyed expression. "What?" She asked him questioning his reaction. He didn't say anything. She giggled and kissed him again. Rick pulled back to look into her eyes. "What...Did you say?" Rick asked shocked. He thought he might have heard her wrong. "You heard me!" She smiled. "Your sure?" He was so confused. "Who are you and where is the Evelyn I know." She smiled, knowing his sarcasm. She kissed him again. "Evelyn?" She kissed him between his words. "Hun—" He couldn't finish. "Rick?" She whispered, her lips still on his. "Yeah." He answered intoxicated by her lips on his. She kissed him again. "Shut up." This time the kiss was more passionate. He listened to her. Holding her closer. He lifted her onto his arms. And headed to the door. "Evelyn...you...you can't just quit and walk out like this." The plump man called out. Almost as if he were jealous. Rick turned back to the man. Evelyn whispered to Rick. "Put me down." He didn't want to. He was afraid that she was going to stay there. "What if I don't want to?" "Well, then I'm just going to have to do this." She slipped her hand down and tickled him on his side. "OK, OK..." He unwillingly put her down. "I'll be right back...I promise this time." Evelyn turned from Rick and walked toward Jake. She got close to him. "Your right." Evelyn agreed with Jake. Rick heard this and his heart broke. 'not again.' He thought to himself. "What would satisfy you enough Jake, so I can 'just walk out like this'?" She waved her hand mocking him. Her voice growing, echoing on the walls. Jake was offended by her actions. "Oh speechless are we?" She was acting the way Jake treated her. Rick kept thinking that this was Very UN-Evelyn like. "Well, mister supervisor...How about I leave like this." She took the sorted papers of her case file out of his hands and through them. The papers went flying everywhere. "Or like this..." She knocked books down. " Or how about this." She grabbed a sculpture. She knew it was worth nothing, but Jake didn't. "No don't you dare." He scolded her pointing at her, his eye's were so filled with anger. "Oh what you mean this?" She slammed it down. Rick jumped at how load it was. He was shocked to see this side of her. But he liked it. He watched her walked back to Jake. Not liking the situation any longer, because of the look Jake was giving her. Rick walked over to them. Evelyn starred the man down. Rick listened carefully. "Perhaps you should have been more respectful towards me...I'm not the simple woman you thought I was. Huh!" She asked in a matter of fact tone. Something she picked up from Rick. " If you'll excuse me I need to be with someone I love who respects me. Rick was now right behind her. He smiled when he heard her say that. She turned to him. And they started to walk out. But Evelyn turned back around to Jake who was still pointing his finger, he was frozen in shock. Evelyn grabbed Jacks pointing finger. "Oh...It's not polite to point. And if you were as good at your job as you say you are...you would know that that sculpture I smashed... It wasn't worth anything." She shoved his hand down. And gave him a quick witful smile. Rick put his arm around her waist and they turned to leave. "I think not!" Jake grabbed her arm where she had cut it earlier on the book rack.... Part Two Coming Soon |
