keep: everywhere she went, every experience she had, she would try and
take a thing to add to her collection, to help her remember. a feather, a rock,
bones of a bird. the things she kept, or the act of
keeping them, became more important than the things they were supposed to
remind her of. or more simply, the
collection became so important that the only experience she had to save tokens
was the act of collecting. the things
she had to take to remember her collecting were the things from the collection
itself, but this time they were once removed, signifying the thing kept
and the act of keeping. her life became
sifting through boxes, collecting things from her collections. she forgot their names or original purpose,
forgot everything except a desperate instinct to remember, to collect, to keep,
and keep the same.
