Recording Notes
It's great to see that there are a few 2003 shows getting recorded, especiall when they come out as good as this one. All the vocals & instruments come through loud & clear & the boys really appear to be enjoying themselves. There is a slight bit of muffle that is probably due to the venues accoustics, but other than that it's a great listen. I would easily rank this among the best Voivod audience recording available up until now.
My only complaint has to due with Jason Newstead's back up vocals particularly on "Gas Mask Revival". Someone needs to tell him that he's not in Metallica anymore & he doesn't have to pretend to me a metal dude. He's in a real metal band that hasn't sold their souls to the almighty dollar & doesn't have to overdue the metal vocals in order to try & prove something.
The set features mostly songs from "Voivod" with a few older one's mixed in. I'd have liked to have had "Killing Technology" represented with at least one song & possibly "Facing Up" or "Invisible Plantet" instead of the silly "Les Cigarees...", but hey, it's just nice to see them together again with Snake & performing at such a high level. I'd say this is a must recording for any Voivod fan.
