A.S.H. PROGRAM

SAFETY PLAN FOR PETS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

These things are not necessary, but would be helpful.
WHAT SHOULD I TAKE WHEN I MOVE MY PET?

* Vaccination and medical records

* Collar and identification tags

* Do not use tags that identify the household you are leaving

* License that proves you own animal
(If not the owner, get license put in your name as a stall tactic)

* Leashes

* Carriers {for cats or others}
{Unconfined cats can easily be scared and escape}

* If you do not have a carrier, a box with holes in it
can work as an emergency carrier, or vets have them
for a few dollars.

* Your pets medication {if any}

* Information sheet on feeding schedules, type of food,
medical conditions, likes and dislikes, fears, if any, and any possible
behavioral problems, to give to the foster parents.

* Your pets personal items- bowls, bedding, toys, grooming supplies,
favorite blanket, litter pans and litter, and an old shirt
or something with your scent on it, etc.

IF YOU HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR PET BEHIND

* If possible, call a domestic violence shelter
to see if they have a pet foster care program in advance

* Collect all needed papers such as
{license, pedigree papers, vet documents, etc.}

* Contact a neighbor or friend to give your pet food,
water, shelter, companionship, and medical care if needed.
Then make arrangements with them to let you know, when
and if, they can get your pet for you.

* YOU SHOULD NEVER ATTEMPT TO GO BACK
AND GET YOUR PET YOURSELF.
THIS COULD COST YOU YOUR LIFE !!!!!!!!
