Mullingar access group in the community are a group of people who are seeking a community radio service for Mullingar, co Westmeath, Ireland.
The aim of such a service would be to promote a sense of community and social solidarity amongst the people of Mullingar and to act as a focus for the exchange of ideas and information, analysis and debate. This is supported by the Broadcasting Commission of Irelands Policy on Community Radio, which reads as follows -
"A community radio station is characterised by its ownership and
programming and the community it is authorised to serve. It is owned
and controlled by a not-for-profit organisation whose structure provides
for membership, management, operation and programming primarily
by members of the community at large. Its programming should be based
on community access and should reflect the special interests and needs
of the listenership it is licensed to serve."
