A Lesson in Pride You insisted on my understanding the significance of, Three little words, That remain unspoken. Someday, you promised. When exactly is that, if not now? Our shared dreams are nothing more than a distant memory, Like the person I once knew so well. The flame has died, Smothered by silence. The grapes have soured, Tainted forever by ambivalence. I finally realize the consequence of Those three little words, Or a lack thereof.
Drifters There was a time when you promised me the moon, My, how times have changed. We can't even hold a civil conversation anymore. Because my opinions are worthless. I am drowning in misery, You are enveloped by cynicism. Tread softly on the quicksand between us, Our common ground has disappeared. I love you despite flaws, forgiving but unable to forget, Always hoping to catch glimpses of the past. When you look at me that way, Are you trying to do the same?
Refusal To bask in your glow, And seconds later fade into the shadows. There is an unbearable ache whenever you go, But pointed bliss whenever you stay. To have no threshold for pain, And yet suffer this on a daily basis, Was very simple of me. I did so nonetheless, Breaking promises to myself. By standing all the bitter, And searching for the sweet. We are not an us anymore. No longer of the same heart, Our paths have diverged. We cannot travel them together, Yet follow them we must, Leaving each other here, Without regret.
The Eternal Paradoxes Although God judges by intentions, The road to Hell is paved with the best of them. Seek the truth in all things, But be aware that curiosity killed the cat. Good things come to those who wait, But the early bird supposedly gets the worm. You don't have to live up or down to your parents, As long as you live by their rules. Feel free to shoot for the moon and follow your dreams, As long as you know your place in life. Beauty is timeless, While in the eyes of the beholder. Knowledge is power, While ignorance is bliss. Although love may be a fool's star, In the truest form, it embodies perfection.
The Photograph I found our photograph the other day, Tucked way in the back of an old album. A moment that is forever frozen of film, A feeling that is captured in a single image, It is forgotten by the lapse of time and a lapse in memory. Images blur: Recollections fade; But emotions stay. The question remains: Where is the person I used to be?
Afterglow Onward and upward. The fuzzy bunnies stagger across blue porcelain. The mist still hangs heavily, dew not yet fallen It is pure time, conscious dream-life; Lather, rinse, repeat. Without the stress of being tangled up in the new "us." Terryclothed in comfort, lavender embraced, A marvelous, bright-eyed reflection Do you miss my popsicle toes?
