| 1. This film was the first of a proposed trilogy of films based around J.J. GIttes and his investigations. 2. This was the first and the last time Nicholson would work with Director Roman Polanski. Polanksi soon fled America after being charged with rape. 3. This film earned Nicholson his third best Actor Nomination. He lost again. 4. In the scene where Nicholson has his nose cut, there is a strong rumour that his nose was actually cut. 5. After numerous takes of the confrontation scene in the house between Evelyn & Gittes, Faye Dunaway told Jack to actually slap. He did this and it made into the film. 6. Faye Dunaway & Polanski had many arguements with one ending with Polanski pulling strands of her out. 7. After an heated argument with Nicholson, director Polankski picked up Nicholson's T.V. and threw it out the window. Nicholson used this T.V. to watch the L.A. Lakers games. 8. Script writer Towne had previously written a script which featured Jack Nicholson. This was the Last Detail Towne was also on board to script The trilogy in total. 9. | My Review | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If you ever want to watch a credible film that will leave you gasping for more thatn you should buy or rent out Chinatown. Chinatown is a marvellous film that never lets you down with holes in a script. The Script is in fact note perfect and the story line is probably the best ever written. Nicholson plays the Gittes with such a smooth prtrayal you actually forget that Nicholson is actually acting. This film of course came before One flew over the cuckoo's nest but at this time Nicholson was a major player in Hollywood. Nicholson has the great sense to work for directors who are very talented at there skill and his sixth sense for working with such directors is eveident in the film. Polanski really does get what he wants in this film. |
