Entry for December 20, 2006 - Dance ![]() By most standards, I'm not a romantic. I don't spend a lot of time fantasing about perfect weddings, or even perfect dates. I rarely read romance novels. Though I enjoy poetry, I've never read a love poem I've actually liked. 98% of the "romantic" movies I've watched have been romantic comedies. Except... I like movies about dance. It's probably my mom's fault for playing Dirty Dancing and Shag on a semi-permanent loop when I was young Dirty Dancing. Shag. Swing Kids. That "Everybody" video by The Backstreet Boys. Save The Last Dance. The "good" parts of A Knight's Tale and Pride & Prejudice. Honey. Take The Lead. And most recently, Step Up... I'm forgetting some too, I'm sure. I like movies like Bring It On for the same reasons, too. Why? Though I'm good at many things, dancing is not one of them. Before you think I'm being too hard on myself, let me tell you that I have empirical evidence of this. I took ballet and gymnastics as a little kid, and I was never any good at either of them. I learned enough coordination to ride my bike which was my parents aim, but graceful I've never been. So it's nice to see people who can really truly dance. That's it. It's just nice. 2006-12-23 04:28:56 GMT
