Entry for November 3, 2006 - NaNoWriMo update ![]() So it's day three and I'm up to 6,179 words, which is a fair bit ahead of the 5001 I really "need" at this point. It's good to get ahead, since I will fall behind. Last year I didn't write a word Thanksgiving or the day after, so I'm glad I'm building a bit of a bank right now. On the other hand, I only got to 17,000 words the first year, so I shouldn't get too cocky, huh? This morning I woke up and decided that I didn't like my story. After thinking about it a bit I decided that the big problem is that I didn't like the point of view. It was in third. As of this afternoon it's in First, with Jared and Islene getting their own chapters to tell their story. Which, at this point is a pretty mess. Over here Islene opens telling us about seeing Jared for the first time when she was five and he was in the hospital nursery. Then in chapter one they find out that there was a mix up at the fertility clinic and their genetic material was mixed together rather than with donors'. Then I skip ahead to the God of Dreams coming to Islene and telling her that she needs to kill the kids and start over. I don't know what chapter that last part is, but it's not chapter two. Ah well, I'm good at stitching together scenes A and F, so it'll make sense eventually. The only problem with not writing in a linear manner no one can read your story as you go along. I guess that's okay, since what work in progress doesn't need some polish? 2006-11-04 03:53:56 GMT
