Entry for October 31, 2006 - Kids screaming. It's What Halloween is Really About ![]() Like the picture? I think we've got even odds of selling it to Ghost Hunters ::evil grin:: When I was a little kid, no one when out of their way to scare trick or treaters. But then, we were trick o treating in Lawerence, perhaps they thought that was scary enough. In this day and time (and place), though, there are no real scares out there so they need to be manufactured. I'm happy to lend myself to the cause each year, because isn't the screams of scared children what Halloween is really about? Colleen's folks' house is known in their town as "the scary house" and I'm proud to say that I've been helping scare the crap out of little kids there for years now. Dana and I both got there with little time to spare, but fortunately we arrived before any little ones were out wandering in front of cars. She played a fortune teller, I ran the mike for one of the talking skeletons, and Colleen was Igor. So it wasn't as put together as most years, but we managed to scare a couple of the adults, which is a first. (Colleen angsted over the thrown together nature, but it seemed to work okay to me.) Apparently we're going to actually prepare a shick next year, since it worked so well the year before last. My favorite of the trick or treaters were two of the Dads. They were dressed as nerds. One of them told us "Some chicks dig nerds." I told him that was true, not us, but some do I have to say, getting to be too old to trick or treat is one of the things I hate about adulthood. This helps in a way, even though I'm not longer one of the beggars. I don't long for it enough to have a kid to take out myself, though! Oh, Vynce and Megan took out her young sisters, so I told him it was just like they were an old married couple already. He didn't turn red until our Dad laughed. I can see him with his own kids in tow someday, we'll see. Anyway, it was another successful night of scaring kids, so this Halloween is now officially done. Stick a fork in it. 2006-11-01 18:43:27 GMT
