Entry for July 10, 2006 - Pirates/World Cup ![]() This past weekend was the best I had in quite some time. It's also the first I didn't work half of in five weeks. Funny that. On Saturday Colleen and I finally got to see POTC:Dead Man's Chest. Very cool flick. I'm a bit surprised that so many are upset that it ends with a cliffhanger: it's the second movie of a triology, why wouldn't it have ended like it did? The last movie comes out in May. I think we'll all survive until then. I wish they'd stop saying it's coming out "next summer" though. May is only mid-spring! FYI, if you go see the movie, stay past the credits! We talked a father and son behind us into staying too, and none of us were sorry we did. When we got back to Colleen's house, we found out that her (visiting from Conn) grandfather bought a new puppy. I find it astonishing that she still has grandparents, but maybe it's not normal to be shed of all yours by the time you're in your early 20s. I didn't even know the grandfather who died when I was 23, so it's more like I haven't had any since I was 18. Anyway, he's an okay guy, if a bit deaf. He's really downsized on dogs, though: his last dog was a Shepard, and the new one is supposed to be 10lbs when he's full grown. I liked the puppy...makes me want one even more... Thanks to Colleen's Dad and Grandfather, I've got about 2lbs of blueberries I need to do something with since Granddad brought about 20 pounds of them. I'm toying with the idea of making blueberry - chocolate chip muffins to see if they're ediable. On Sunday I got together again with a few people from work (7) and went to the Coat of Arms in Portsmouth to watch the World Cup game; there ended up being ten of us there by middle of the game. (why yes, one of the guys in the last post was germane to accepting the invite) It was fairly fun, and we prevailed upon the guys to explain the things we didn't know about the game. They were happy to explain =) I like being the "expert" at times too, heh. Since none of us really had a dog in that fight, we rooted for France since we ended up on the French side of the pub. Last area to squeeze in 10 people, you see. One of the other patrons was a France Fan who insisted on speaking the same three sentences in French repeatedly. For three hours. And singing, badly, in French. One of the girls at our table is moving to France in September, and was able to translate for us. That guy's table had decidedly more to drink than anyone at ours did! Yet they weren't too annoying (well, when he asked people to take pictures with the French flag I thought one of the Italy fans would deck him, but other than that...), which was nice. For a sport I have very little interest in, it wasn't a bad game. The headbutt was stunning, though. I suppose that's why France lost. Either that or because we chose to root for them. I didn't realize until then that one of Laura's scorers was dating my first writing QAC. It's a weirdly small world some times. I found out that he was an extra on One Tree Hill too, not just Surfacing. I'll have to see if I can find the episode and look for him. And that sums up a rare weekend that didn't suck. 2006-07-10 23:00:19 GMT
