CAN'T DENY IT
One person who isn't surprised by the overwhelming public adoration for the
Korean is her SCQ juror and Reload director Laurenti Dyogi. Dyogi reveals
that Sandy wasn't even in his top five during the contest. He was happy to
just to have her in the Magic Circle of Ten. "I was going for talent, and
because it was for Star Circle Quest, I wanted to prioritize Filipino kids.
I was really happy that she made it to the Top 10. Feeling ko, okay na sa
akin na nandoon siya. But you cannot deny charm. You cannot deny the
X-factor of this kid. She's charming, she's funny, plus there's the
Chinovela/Koreanovela appeal."
It's clear even to her co-questors, Neri Naig, whom Sandy knocked out of
the Magic Circle of Five, admits that Sandy's appeal is connected to how
real she is, "With her, what you see is what you get talaga. Sobrang totoo
siya," says Neri.
Elvie says that besides her looks, they admire Sandy for not being afraid
to show who she is. With her, what you see is what you get. Mabait siya,
approachable, down-to-earth at childlike. She's very straightforward and
she speaks her mind."
Her sense of humor is another big reason that people love her. "Loka-loka
si Sandara at sobrang nahahawa kami sa mga one-liners niya," say Neri and
Roxanne. "Weird siyang tao, pero funny. Minsan po literal siya. Like one
time, sinabi niya na gutom daw po siya. Tinanong namin siya kung bakit.
Sabi lang niya, 'Because my mouth is bored.'"
Because of her childlike personality and sense of humor, her co-questors
have come to look at Sandara as their little sister. According to Joross
Gamboa, "Kalog din siya, sobra! Parang Kris Aquino. She says what she
wants."
Anna Yambao and Jerry Telan, Sandy's handlers from the ABS-CBN Talent
Center, say their new alaga is one of the easiest talents to work with.
"She is very independent and can usually decide for herself with a little
bit of guidance. Wala siyang kiyeme," they say.
