On these next pages you will find profiles of some of my favorite flowers. Most of them I have had in my own gardens and some I have only worshipped from afar. Enjoy!!!!
Perrenials:
Bell Flower: These are one of the most beautiful flowers I have had. I have the short Carpatica which are lilac colored and only grow 6-8 inches and prefer part shade. They will form nice size mounds in about three years. Pictured is the Persicifolia which will grow to 3 feet. If left to seed itself it will spread nicely and should be staked. Prefers sun to partial shade. Blooms from June to August.
Bergamot: This flower is otherwise known as Bee Balm, It has feathery blooms that last from July through September if you deadhead them. It will grow 3feet or more if you give it lots of sun. Beware of this plant if you are leary of bees. It is very true to it's name. Also great for butterflies. Easy to propagate by division.
Columbine: This is a native plant that grows in woodlands throughout Ontario. It loves the shade and reseeds itself quite well. There are many color varieties to choose from. Attracts bees and butterflies. Grows to about 2 feet and prefers to kept moist. Will bloom in late June and July.
Purple and Yellow (Black Eyed Susan) Cone Flower: These are native flowers and are a pleasure to grow. The Purple Cone Flower will bloom July and August while the Yellow blooms a little later. They grow 3 feet and like sun with some afternoon shade. Easy to divide yellow but purple are sometimes difficult.
Daisy: These are some of nature's great acomplishments. There are many varieties to choose from, all blooming at different times throughout the season so you can always enjoy them. Most are easy to grow in sun or partial shade. My favorite is the shasta Daisy which is similar to the Oxeye which is pictured. The Painted Daisy has fern like leaves and has a short blooming period in June, but is well worth it with it's bright pink and purple flowers. Most are easy to propagate through division.
