SHADOWED MINDS CHAPTER 4 Docking Bay “Be careful,” Pyrus warned, “we don’t know what sort of technology they have now.” “Uh...Pyrus.” “Not now, Ratel.” “Father!” Zera called, running into the dock, “If you’re going, then I am coming too! I will not let you go face the Beasts alone!” “Uh...you guys?” “WHAT?” The others turned in exasperation towards a trembling Ratel. The expressions on their faces soon turned to amazement when they saw Lamprey taking off in one of the ice ships and joining the group of Beast Drones. “Oh no!” Sternum cried, “Look out! They’re coming down!” As everyone froze for a moment, Graveheart’s brain worked furiously. ‘How were they going to stop the Drones? There where just too many of them!’ “Get our ships out of there.” Cryos’ voice cut through the mounting confusion. “Lead the Drones away from the planet and then selfdestruct the Ice Skiff.” “Selfdestruct?” “Yes, just after the Beast first appeared, I had them installed in all ships. The blast should be powerful enough to knock out most, if not all, of the ships.” Beast Drone Ship “As the dearly departed Blokk would say...ATTACK!” It was at precisely that moment that Cryos hit the selfdestruct button. “Oh, pretty.” Ratel was admiring the bursts of light, which signified the death of many, when she noticed that the others were staring at her, again. ‘Oh no, what is it this time?’ she thought as she turned to them. “Right...” Graveheart said, clearing his throat. “Yes well...” Cryos started. “*Ahem* I think it’s time we set out for our mission to destroy the Beast’s bases, now that the planets are moving away from where the Beast Planet is, curtesy of Ratel’s information here.” At which point, Ratel started shifting from foot to foot, looking distinctly uneasy. Luckily, Cryos didn’t notice and continued on. “Come Graveheart.” “Don’t forget me.” Jade cut in, whispering to Graveheart as she passed him, “I still don’t trust that freak...” “Femur?” Graveheart exclaimed, as he saw Femur making his way to the ship, “What are you doing?” “Coming along for the ride.” Femur smiled slyly “Nothing wrong with that is there? And it means me and toots will have to spend time together, don’t it toots.” “Move any closer to me toad and you won’t be going anywhere.” “Make way, coming through” the young prince ran up the ramp. “Pyrus! Wait for me!” “Zera!” Cryos exclaimed, “You are not coming!” “Father” Zera explained patiently “If you are going, then I will accompany you. Besides,” she said, dropping the princess manner, “if you’re taking lava head with you then you’ll need all the help you can get!” Ratel rolled her eyes and started nudging Zera on. “Come on” she sighed “let’s get going already. If Pyrus makes it to the rooms first he’ll pick the best ones!” Zera, flashing a gloating look at her father, raced off with Ratel. “That Ratel is a bad influence on my Zera.” Cryos grumbled, as the hundreds of troops prepared for lift off. “This is Serii-Terica.” Graveheart announced
to the assemble troops. “Set up camp, we will only need a few
sentries tonight. The Beast settlement is on the planet over to the
right, so if you see any unusual activity there, then sound the alarm
at once. For the rest of you make sure that you get a good night sleep...you’ll
need it.” As the group disburser Jade approached Graveheart.
The strangers where setting up camp. Scurrying around, like ice fleas. A few pathetic guards were being set up. This was...unusual. A slight breeze made the ice antennas flicker, as the fire eyes narrowed in thought.
