SHADOWED MINDS CHAPTER ONE - They're baaaack Planet Ice - Throne Room Graveheart looked around at the assembled royalty. “I just think we should consider turning off the world engines, that’s all.” “No way!” Femur exclaimed, “you might want to let the Beast Planet find us and catch us again, but I don’t!” “For once, I agree with the toad” Jade said, the distaste of having to do so evident. “Oh toots, I knew you’d see things my way” Femur smiled, his hand wandering towards Jade’s back. Quick as lightning, Jade snatched his hand and twisted his wrist. “Touch me again, toad, and it will be the last thing you do.” *** Beast Drone ship “Oh my God...we’re all going to die! We’re going to die, we’re going to die.” The pilot of one of the Beast Drone ships seemed to have that stuck on the brain. “Calm down, Ratel.” came the soothing tones of the leader, “Everything’s going to be fine.” “That’s easy for you to say,” Ratel replied, “you’re not the one with Beast Drones right on your tail. AH! That one almost got me! Lucky we stole some of their ships or we’d be dead by now!” “Look, cool it, ok! We’re almost on Planet Ice. I can see it from here. Everything’s going to be o...” There was nothing but static. “Agama? Hello Agama...ok, this isn’t funny, Agama! STOP IT!” Ratel stopped shouting and took a couple of deep breaths. “Calm, cool, collected...I’M GONNA KILL THOSE DRONES!” *** “Father,” Lady Zera called, as she ran into the throne room, “Father, we have detected some Beast Drone activity above us!” “What!” Sternum cried, “How is it possible? The Beast Planet was teleported, along with my home!” “I don’t know how it has happened, but it has.” “Tekla,” Cryos demanded, “bring a visual of the ships up on the screen.” When Tekla had done so, they noticed something strange. “Hey,” Pyrus cried, startled. “That ship just attacked the others!” And so indeed it had. Unfortunately for the occupant of that ship, it was outnumbered four to one. “Look out!” Zera cried, as the ship’s wings were blasted off. As the ship tumbled out of the sky, Tekla noticed that it was heading straight for them! “Everyone get out of here!” she cried. As everyone ran out of the room, she called to Voxx, “Voxx, how long do we have until impact?” “Impact imminent in 10 seconds” was the emotionless reply. “9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...impact.” Just then, there was a huge blast, and the world spun... *** Ratel emerged from the wrecked craft, groggy and disorientated. “Great,” she muttered, “now what?” A row of Drones seeds scattered around her. “I just had to ask.” *** “We’d better go assess the damage. Follow me.” As Cryos led the way, they heard Beast Drone fire. “Beast Drones!” “Look out!” Graveheart cried, as a ball of energy zoomed overhead. “Everyone get down! Jade, get some sonic cannons!” Ratel watched in awe, as the creatures destroyed Beast after Beast. “Wow,” she muttered, “I wouldn’t want to get on their bad side.” Unfortunately, as she had been watching them, she hadn’t noticed a Beast approaching her from behind. “AH!” she screamed, as she turned just in time. Doing the first thing that came to mind, she shoved her claws into its containment unit. As the drone dissipated with a scream, she jumped up
and down. “Oh yeah, I ROCK!” she shouted as she turned
back to the battle, just in time to see Jade destroy three Drones
at once. “Or not.” “Null matter still present” Voxx said, destroying Jade’s smile. “Level insufficient for full Drone.” “Maybe an arm or a leg off one of the Beasts?” Zera suggested. As she wandered round the room she caught a glimpse of a foot, but it was not made of null matter. “Hey you, show yourself!” “Don’t shoot!” came a strange voice. “I’m not a Drone!” “Show yourself!” Zera repeated. “Ok...ok.” At this, the creature showed
itself. A collective gasp rose from the assembled people. The creature
wasn’t a Beast all right. It looked like a mad scientist’s
nightmare. “Um...I come in peace?”
