Story 2, Mean Nurses...

"We aren't going to baby you!!.."

I was in Allegheny General Hospital. It was 2 days after I was life flighted by helicopter, and the doctors already knew I had fluid in my abdomen. I was in alot of pain and laying in bed alot of the time. My body was in shock and my white blood cell count was 10 times the normal value. My mom was spending alot of time in my room with me. My nurse came into my room and was telling me that I needed to get up and walk. I told her I was in too much pain. She stood at the bottom of my bed and said "You have to get up and walk, Don't think we are going to BABY you, and hold your hand!" I didn't want ANYONE to baby me. I just wanted left alone. I didn't feel good and the nurse really wasn't that concerned about me. My bed was right next to the window, and I had the curtain between me and my room mate closed about half-way. I didn't like it when people would walk past my room and stare in at me, so thats why I had my curtain pulled shut. I would fall asleep not knowing that my gown was pulled up too, and I didn't want to flash anyone!!

My nurse returned later that day, while I was sleeping I might add, and she grabbed ahold of my curtain and yanked it back without even asking me if I wanted it that way. After she left I pulled it back the way I had it. I guess it was some kind of game to her because later on that day she came back in my room and pushed it back AGAIN! She was a very mean and rude nurse. The next day my incision started leaking bowel contents and I went into surgery that night. Maybe thats why I didn't feel like getting up and walking, huh ?!?!(Read about it in December 2000 hospital stay)
