Well I will sure tell you one thing this month has been pure HECK!! I never knew that an ileostomy bag could cause so much trouble!! The first of the month we ran out of the sample ileostomy bags that my home healthcare nurse had given me. So we started using the bags that my surgeons nurse ordered for me. The first one we put on lasted 3 days. The second one lasted 1 day..then we were changing the bag about every 4 hours!! Prety soon my skin was blistered and seeping from the irritation. Now we couldn't get any bag to stay on!! I had to go a whole 24 hours before I could see my surgeon. I had to sit and keep cleaning the area. Luckalyy the nurse was able to get a bag to stay on the next day.
The end of the month I was taking a shower. After I got out of the shower I was looking at my ileostomy. I seen 2 holes on it!! 2 HOLES?? Mine was only suppose to have one hole! I called for my mom, then we called my doctor on the phone. He said that he really couldn't tell me if anything was wrong or not and that I'de have to come see him in the office. I went the next day to see him. They examined my ileostomy and told us that I did have 2 holes because I had a loop ileostomy. NO ONE ever told us that I had a loop ileostomy! We felt so stupid! We thought that something bad happened to it or something!!
